Find Out More

Pamlico sound is an estuary located between central North Carolina and the Outer Banks.

Importance of Estuaries

Estuaries are homes for thousands of marine animals and their species. The habitat is perfect for aquatic organisms like the Blue Crab.

Pamlico Sound is home to the Blue Crab, the Striped Bass, the Shad fish, Red Drum, and the Spot fish.

The Neuse, Pamlico, and Trent rivers lead into the Pamlico Sound.

Pollution runoffs from impermeable surfaces are causing an acceleration of algae growth that remove the dissolved oxygen from the water killing animals like the Blue Crab.
