Teacher Placement Information for Parents with students attending Pioneer or Valley View for 2018-2019 School Year
Forms for Parent Input for Student Classroom Placement (2018-2019) will be available in the Pioneer and Valley View school offices starting on Tuesday, April 3rd. This is an optional form; you are not required to fill one out. Parents or guardians wishing to complete the form must sign one out in the Pioneer or Valley View school office. It will not be sent home with students. The deadline for returning the form is 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 6th. Parents with students at Cormier who are scheduled to attend either Pioneer or Valley View next year may also pick up the form in those school offices. Please read the instructions for completing the form carefully as there are specific criteria that must be met if you wish your information to be given consideration in the student placement process. Student placement is driven by the educational needs and program services of the student. Due to the preliminary work that must be done prior to placement meetings in May, forms received after 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 6th will not be given consideration for placement. Our tentative student placement will be determined in May. Because of changes that may occur during the summer due to children moving in and out of the district, all student’s teacher placement will be posted in the parent PowerSchool SSO account in late August. Any questions, please contact Mr. Weyers at Valley View School, or Mr. Marto at Pioneer School.
LIBRARY NEWS
Call Deb Danen or Kathy Rolling at 448-2875, ext. 7113, for more information regarding Cormier’s library.
National Library Week
National Library Week is April 8th-14th. The American Library Association and libraries across the country will be celebrating the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and promoting library use. We are giving every student an opportunity to earn a free scoop of frozen yogurt and/or a kid’s meal from Culver’s by visiting the Ashwaubenon Public Library and reading! A letter and book care form will be coming home the week of April 2nd explaining our program. Fill out the book care form and turn it in at the Ashwaubenon Public Library located at 1060 Orlando Drive. Once you turn in the form you will receive a Culver’s bookmark for tracking your reading. Reading 5 books will earn you a free scoop of Culver’s frozen yogurt and reading 5 more books (total of 10) will earn you a free Culver’s kid’s meal. While you are at the Ashwaubenon Branch, take some time to see all that they have to offer. Your public library offers free access to books, computers, and so much more!
Public Library Card
Do you and/or your child currently have a public library card? The Brown County Library system has a branch in Ashwaubenon, as well as in Denmark, East Green Bay, DePere, Pulaski, Southwest Green Bay, Howard, and Wrightstown. Stop in at any of the branches to fill out a public library card application for yourself or your child. A public library card opens the door to possibilities!
Birthday Book Club
Many thanks to Katelyn in Mrs. Sudol’s pm class for donating a book to the library since the last newsletter. Perhaps your child has talked to you about donating a book to the library. All you would need to do is choose a new book that your son or daughter would like to give to the library. A student may want to bring the book in on their birthday but any other day is fine also. If you are wondering what titles to purchase, we would love Spring books for donations. We also have a list of donation ideas posted outside the library door for parents to take.
RIF
Cormier’s third and final RIF distribution for the school year will be on Tuesday, April 10th, and all students will again be able to select a book to keep for their very own. We will be celebrating with The Very Hungry Caterpillar to go along with National Library Week’s theme of “Libraries Lead”. All students and staff are encouraged to wear a rainbow of colors that day!
Sticker Chart – Prizes Needed
To promote positive behavior when classes come to the library, they have the opportunity to earn a sticker on the good behavior chart. When a class has collected four stickers they will receive a reward — a prize from the treasure box! We would appreciate donations of simple prizes for our prize box. Due to health concerns, we’d appreciate new or cleaned items only.
Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week
April 9-13, 2018 has been designated as Wisconsin's Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week. We will practice and participate in the statewide tornado drill on Thursday, April 12. Please remember, in the event of a real tornado, for the safety of all concerned, no one will be released from school until the “All Clear” is given.
Head Start Registration
CESA 7 Head Start is looking for families who want a preschool experience for their child. The program provides a fun, stimulating environment for families who meet income guidelines and have children age 3 by September 1, 2018. Head Start provides free bussing with a bus aide, meals, and the opportunity for parent involvement. The half day sessions are offered at centers located throughout Brown County in the Ashwaubenon, DePere, and Howard/Suamico areas.
To apply or for more information about the Head Start program, contact the Head Start office, at 920-430-1153.
