Twin Hills Elementary School
"Students Today; Leaders Tomorrow!"
December 2022
Principal's Message
"If it takes a village to raise our children, we must think outside of the hut." ~ Dr. Nock
I often hear people reference the African proverb about adults banding together as a village to support a child along their journey to adulthood. Over the generations of my life, I recall neighbors and school personnel being welcomed as aides to oversee children when their parents were not nearby. Throughout the years, like a beach, this trusted connection has eroded, diminishing the village concept to that of a 'hut'- my house, my family, my child...
I work tirelessly as a school principal to establish a communal school culture that promotes the interests and betterment of every child, understanding Twin Hills will be as great as the representation of our individual staff, students, and families. I expect every stakeholder to commit to the collective advancement of our school by governing their roles and their responsibilities to the 'village'. No longer can we operate in isolation from each other and experience universal progress. Believing it is always best to speak to the many, I want to sincerely thank the parents/families who appreciate our complex and demanding work as educators, addressing us with a courteous spirit and joining in support of our efforts. Thank you for your warm wishes on difficult days, your receptivity in challenging conversations, and your trust in our sincere efforts to help your child, and every child, in our village! As we approach a new calendar year, I call on all of the adults/elders of our 'Twin Hills Village' to (re)consider your perspective and resolve to recommit to the cause of making our school the best it can be in 2022-2023!
~Dr. Sonya R. Nock
