Read here to find the letter shared on the listserv about end of year events sponsored by the PTSA.

Ms. Levin (Grade 7 AP) On Leave

As you know Ms. Levin, our 7th grade administrator, WAS pregnant. We are excited to announce that this week Ms. Levin's precious baby arrived which means she will be on leave for the rest of the school year and we will welcome her back in the fall!

In the meantime, our eagles are in good hands as Ms. Estes, our Content Specialist of the Physical Education department, will support the 7th grade team for the last three weeks of school. Ms. Estes is no stranger to our students and families and she comes with experience in the area of administration, so we are confident students will have what they need to end the school year strong.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY (IAQ) MONITORING PROGRAM

As a part of a commitment to healthy learning and working environments for all students and staff, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is launching a project to install permanent real-time indoor air quality sensors in all classrooms, media centers, and all-purpose rooms. This action was adopted by the Board of Education in fall 2022. This work will take place over the next several months and is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the fall 2023 school year. Data collected will be used by staff in the Department of Facilities Management to make adjustments and initiate improvements to HVAC systems; summary data will be made available to the public on the MCPS website.

A photo of the indoor air quality sensor that will be installed on the wall is shown below. The sensor is approximately 7x7 inches, with associated wiring to an outlet.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are in need of help to make 8th grade end of year activities a success. It is an Eastern tradition for the 6th and 7th grade class parents to fill most of the volunteer roles for the events.

*Last year, many 8th grade parents, including those on the current PTSA board, volunteered and we would love to have your help this year. Volunteer signup for post-promotion celebration: https://signup.com/go/UKWAnp

ANTI-RACIST SYSTEM AUDIT- (Family Update)

The Eastern staff has been engaged in conversations around the data in the MCPS Antiracist Audit. Find the EMS Antiracist System Letter to Families outlining information about the antiracist audit as well as an update on our work with the antiracist audit data.

During the summer we will be engaging our families and students in discussions around the data in the antiracist audit as we continue our work to meet the needs of all of our students. We will be sharing more information with our community about these opportunities in the upcoming weeks. For your reference, I am also including a copy of the MCPS Antiracist System Action Plan. You can feel free to follow up with any member of the admin team if you have questions.
