Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Principal's Letter
Dear Prairie Point Families:
What a wonderful start to the 2019 - 2020 school year. I have really enjoyed seeing our returning students and getting to know those students who are joining the Prairie Point family for the first time! It was fantastic to welcome and meet so many parents to our Curriculum Night last week. Thank you to all of our families who stopped in the gym for our administrative welcome and spent time meeting our teachers. The relationship between home and school is truly a partnership and we look forward to partnering with you throughout the year.
Yesterday we kicked off our Panther Fitness Challenge with an exciting assembly. The 2019 Panther Fitness Challenge will take place on September 27th. The theme this year is “Kids Can Change the World. We Can Give Them the Tools”. I am grateful for all of the work that our Home and School has done to plan and prepare for this awesome event. Students should have brought their Panther Fitness Challenge packets home yesterday. Please consider donating to our fundraiser. Last year we raised over $17,000 that went directly to our classrooms to support our students and teachers.
Finally, I wanted to draw your attention to our school Facebook page: www.facebook.com/prairiepoint308. Every day our students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning exploration and activities. Each week we will highlight different classrooms and share out many of the awesome learning activities that take place at Prairie Point. We look forward to sharing our students and teachers with our community throughout the year - be sure to check us out!
Again, I am looking forward to our partnership. If there is anything that I can do to assist you during the year, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I can be reached at 630.636.3610 or jgroves@sd308.org. I am looking forward to making the 2019 - 2020 school year the best one yet!

Birthday Book Club
THE PRAIRIE POINT
BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB
"A Book is a Present You Can Open Again and Again"
Are you looking for a fun way to honor your child’s birthday? The Prairie Point LRC has the answer! Donating a book to the LRC helps build our library collection and makes your child feel special
at the same time!
How it works:
Enroll your child at the beginning of the school year. Please choose if you would like to donate a new book (purchase on your own) or pay $16 to have us choose a library-bound one for you.
The birthday book will be delivered during the first week of your child’s birthday month. If your child’s birthday falls during the summer months, we’ll recognize him/her on their half birthday.
A book plate with your child’s name will be placed in the front of the book.
Your child gets to be the first one to check it out from the LRC. As years pass, he/she will enjoy seeing other children check out "their" book.
If you would like to join the Birthday Book Club, please complete the bottom of this letter and return it to the LRC with cash or check for $16 by September 25th. Make checks payable to "Prairie Point Elementary".
If you have any questions, please contact

New Morning Procedure
We have one change in our morning procedure that we would like to bring to your attention.
Morning drop off between 8:30-8:45am will be limited to students eating breakfast only. Breakfast students who arrive between 8:30 and 8:45am will need to be walked to Door #9 to enter the gym. Breakfast will continue to be offered from 8:45 - 9am for any students who arrive during this time.
Drop-off for all other students will begin at 8:45am. Students who ride the bus and walk will enter through Door #4. Students who are dropped off by car will proceed through the drop-off line and enter through Door #2 and Door #10. These doors are not a change from last year. Please note that the only supervision between 8:30-8:45am will be in the cafeteria for breakfast students. Please do not have your child arrive prior to 8:45am unless they are here for breakfast.
Friendly reminders for Arrival & Dismissal
* Always pull all the way forward as directed by staff.
* For safety, students must enter and exit on the passenger side only.
* Drivers are to remain in the car at all times.
* Encourage your student to be respectful in line and watch for your car at dismissal.
* Display your student's name card in your car window.
* Cell phone use in school zones is against the law.
* For arrival, dismissal and the safety of your student, please do not park in the inner lot and cross the parking lot.
Lost and Found
Dear Parents,
The school lost and found is located right outsdie my art room. It is already starting to fill with lost items. I often go through the lost and found and look for names so that I can return anything possible . PLEASE WRITE YOUR CHILD'S NAME INSIDE THEIR LUNCH BOX as well as jackets and sweatshirts. This will hlep get heir lost things back to them more quickly.
Thank you!
Mrs. Collins, Prairie Point Art Teacher
Gym Shoe Reminder
We realize it is a little tricky this year to remember what days P.E. are because of the A,B,C,D,E schedule. Therefore, it is recommended that a pair of gym shoes are left at school so your child is always prepared. Please be sure the shoes have laces or Velcro.
Thank you,
P.E. Department
