Term 4 Week 10 Friday 11 December 2015
A Message from the Principal
As Cerdon College closes its academic year, students have been acknowledged for their academic, social, sport, Visual Arts, TAS, Music and performing arts achievements. The awards presented to students are a tribute to their hard work and effort put into a variety of subject areas by our students.
It is especially encouraging to see so many students being acknowledged for their contributions in the classroom, the school and in the community.
May I take this opportunity to thank parents and staff for their support and co-operation over the past year. It is especially encouraging to see students, parents and staff continuing to work together to ensure that each of our students continues to strive to be a confident, articulate and well informed young citizen who can use their values to make a real difference in our community.
As a community at Christmas, may we continue to keep Christ at the centre of our lives.
As we wait in anticipation for Christmas, the time when Christ humbled
himself to share in our humanity, may we be open to God’s call.
Just as Mary said “be it done unto me according to your word”
may we look forward to a 2016 where we may be the face of Christ to others.
And so we pray:
Loving God, Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and
open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy
to be the children of God,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.
Amen

Food Donations 2015
I wish to extend a very much deserved thank you to the students and families who supported the Cerdon College Food Drive of 2015. All the donations ranging from essential food and toiletry items were donated to the House of Welcome, located at Carramar.
Every week, the House of Welcome provides a foodbank service for refugees and those seeking asylum. With access to little or no income, the foodbank is an essential support for many people.
Foodbank is stocked thanks to kind and generous donations.
The work of the House of Welcome can be viewed at:

Year 10 Update
Co-ordinating this year group for the past two years has been a pleasure. I have watched these young ladies mature and become a close and generous cohort. They have always extended a helping hand to those in need, not only within our school but the wider community. The girls have been making weekly trips to Holy Family Primary School in Emerton as part of a Reach-out program this term.
Term 4 has been a busy one with Yearly Exams, preparing for Senior study, voting for the 2016 Leaders and putting our coordination skills to good use in Ballroom dancing with Marist Brothers, Eastwood. It was a very successful day, new dance steps were learnt and some friendships made.
As we near the end of Term 4, we will finish with an Alternate Program. Week 10 will consist of various sessions, which I’m sure the girls will find useful in their future lives. The week will consist of Self Defence, Surf Lifesaving, Life Coaching, Safe Partying, Cyber Crime and an excursion to The Australian Catholic University, North Sydney campus. Their last day will be a formal Luncheon at Parramatta Leagues Club to celebrate the completion of Year 10.
AN IRISH BLESSING
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Congratulations on finishing Year 10 and good luck in your Senior studies.

Enrichment @ Cerdon
As the end of the school year approaches, I take this opportunity to commend all the students who have involved themselves in enrichment activities throughout the year, whether as a way of pursuing their passions or even trying something new. A number of students will also be enriching their holidays by participating in new and interesting experiences. Whether it will be an art or literature workshop, or a science or university experience, I wish to congratulate all the students for taking the opportunity. I hope your time will be fun and enriching!
OZ Kids in Print
Congratulations to Felicia Aung and Erin Cahill who once again had their work published in the magazine OZ Kids in Print. Felicia wrote a poem titled The Bond we Make and Create while Erin Cahill wrote a short story titled Who Ever Loved that Loved Not at first Sight?
Both girls enjoy writing and this achievement is certainly well deserved. Well Done girls!
The 2015 Cerdon College Knowledge Challenge for Year 10
Fresh from their end of year exams, Year 10 found a fun and interesting way to relax and entertain themselves and the school community by participating in the 2015 Knowledge Challenge, the final one for the year! The competition started with a written section comprising of over 100 questions. The buzzer heats followed and as always were well contested. Students answered questions on subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, the Arts, Sport, Entertainment and Current Affairs. In this challenge we had the pleasure of some guest compares including our librarians and Mrs Baker! After over 350 questions the final challenge was between Marcellin and Colin. Congratulations to Anadora Alejo, Nikhita Kaur and Theresa Nguyen from Marcellin, for making the final and for providing a deserving challenge to the eventual winners. Congratulations to Annmaree Kenny, Thy Mai and Emily Stoove from Colin, for their efforts and for winning the 2015 year 10 knowledge challenge.
