Student Safety

Student safety is a top priority at Farney Elementary. If you plan to visit our school, please have your picture ID available every time you are here. When you ring the doorbell, front desk personnel will ask the nature of your visit. Please respond in the intercom. Once access is granted, please enter the security vestibule. Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask.

Welcome Back

School Communication

We communicate in a variety of ways. The Falcon Flyer is the easiest way to stay “in the know.” You will receive it via School Messenger every two weeks. School Messenger is the district's mass notification system. If you are not enrolled, please click http://www.cfisd.net/en/parents-students/contacts-communications/schoolmessenger/ to sign up. We also post it to Twitter @CFISDFarney as well as the Farney Facebook page. Our mascot, Francine the Falcon, also has her own Instagram page. Simply follow francinethefalcon on Instagram.

Teachers use Twitter and a variety of other methods to communicate (emails, Remind, Schoology, newsletters, Google Classroom and/or Class Dojo).

Teachers send home weekly folders which include student work and a communication card each Friday. Please sign the card and return the folder to school each Monday.

Did you know you can receive information about when your child enters and exits the bus? Go to zpassplus.com to access the parent portal and sign up for notifications. The RFID number is located on the left side of their "backpack badge" next to the barcode. PK/K and newly enrolled students will receive RFID badges within the next two weeks.

Information Services recently upgraded the Student Information System, including the Home Access Center (HAC). HAC allows parents and students to view student registration, scheduling, attendance, assignment, and grade information. With this new upgrade, several new security features have been introduced. Please note the following dates:

August 22, 2021 – HAC was activated for the CFISD student population.

August 27, 2021 – HAC will be activated for the CFISD parent population. Information Services will begin sending emails today to parents that contain login instructions for parent access. Please direct any questions and/or concerns to the Customer Care Center at 281-897-4357.

Awesome Volunteers

Thanks to everyone who volunteered on the 1st day of school! You helped our students have an amazing first day!

Reserved Parking

The reserved parking spaces at the front of the school are reserved for Farney staff members who frequently leave from and/or return to the building during the school day. Please do not park in these spaces before school, after school, or during the day. For your convenience, we ask all other staff members to use the back parking lot so that there are dozens of visitor spots available to you in the front of the school. We appreciate your cooperation.

Release of Information Forms

If you need Behavior Rating Scales completed or want the school to communicate with an outside entity, private tutor, doctor, etc., you will need to complete a Release of Information form for this school year. You can request this form through the counseling office. When asking teachers to complete Behavior Rating Scales, you will need to give one week’s notice to allow teachers ample time to complete the forms. These forms will be faxed directly to the doctor’s office and you will be notified once this is completed.

Core Essentials

Each month we will have a new core value. Students will learn about the new word in their

weekly classroom meetings and discuss how they can use it to be amazing Farney Falcons!

September’s Core Value is Initiative!

Initiative means seeing what needs to be done and doing it.

Now recruiting WATCH DOGS!

Our Watch Dog program consists of Dads or Father Figures of Great Students who volunteer one day at their child’s school. They will perform a variety of tasks including assisting with the car line in the morning, eating lunch with their child, monitoring the cafeteria and helping in their child’s classroom. Right now we are collecting emails for our Watch Dog database. If you are interested and haven’t already, please complete the registration link below to add your name and email to our list. We will be sending a sign-up link towards the end of September for dads to pick their date on the calendar. Please contact sandra.ayala@cfisd.net or shannon.zepeda@cfisd.net if you have any questions. We look forward to your participation and hope to see many dads at Farney Elementary!

Big picture

As a reminder, the school day starts promptly at 8:40 a.m. each morning. In order to minimize any disruption to the instructional day, students are encouraged to arrive on time. Students who arrive after 8:40 a.m. must be walked into the building and signed in at the front desk by a parent or guardian.

Morning Drop Off Safety

If you are dropping your child off for school in the morning, please be sure to use the car rider line at the front of the school. Due to safety concerns, students are not permitted to be dropped off in bus loading zones. There are also supervised crosswalks on Spring Barker and Barker Cypress that students may use to safely cross the street if they are Hiker/Bikers. We have had several close calls where students are crossing these busy streets in places other than the crosswalks in the morning. Our #1 priority is the safety of all of our Farney Falcons.

Lunch Visitors

Lunch Visitors will be welcomed starting September 7, 2021

Parents and guardians are invited to visit during lunch. Any other visitors (grandparents, siblings, friends, etc.), must be accompanied by the parent or guardian or have a note giving them permission to eat with the child for each visit. In accordance with CFISD policy, school-age children are not permitted to visit the campus at any time. Due to food and nutrition guidelines, you may bring lunch for your child only. For your convenience, there are tables reserved for you to enjoy lunch with your child. Teachers will call the “Farney Five” at the end of lunch to signal when it is time for your child to say a quick goodbye and rejoin his/her class.

Birthday Celebrations

Student birthdays are acknowledged at school during the morning announcements and in the classroom. Students and teachers may not distribute invitations (or forward email invitations) to personal parties at school. We do not deliver gifts such as flowers, balloons, etc. You might consider purchasing a birthday book for your child. See the flyer below for details. Due to health regulations, cakes, cupcakes, favors, etc., are not permitted. If you'd like your child to celebrate with his/her class, treats may be purchased from the cafeteria 5 days in advance. Contact martha.santacruz@cfisd.net for details.

We have SO many opportunities for you to volunteer at Farney! We encourage you to get involved in any way you can. If you cannot come in to the school during the day, we have brown bag projects that can be sent home. A strong home/school partnership means success for our children. For more information go to www.farneypto.com.

Amazon Smile

Do you shop on Amazon? Simply go to smile.amazon.com and type Farney Elementary PTO in the search box. Once you select Farney a portion of your purchase will be donated to Farney every time you shop! You only have to designate Farney the first time, after that, you will go to smile.amazon.com each time to start your order.

To earn money for our school each time you shop, simply register your Kroger card (cards have to be registered EACH year) online: www.krogercommunityrewards.com

All you need is your phone! Download the Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then use the app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will identify Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit your school’s earnings online. Twice a year, your school will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever it needs!
