Bear Bulletin

Maire Newsletter February 18th edition

Dear Maire Families,

I think the world has become more adaptive and flexible due to the pandemic. So much has changed in the past two years, and with each change our students, staff, and families have made the most out of each situation. As many are aware, the district continues to send communications about the change in county and state mandates regarding masks. Regardless of what changes have come along, our goal at Maire has always been to continue to provide a safe and caring learning environment for everyone. We will continue to work hard to make students feel safe at school with whatever they need to provide comfort or support.

Speaking of transitions, we are shifting into Mid-Winter Break. We hope that each and every family has a safe week together. As a parent myself, I try to enjoy whatever time I can to reconnect with my children. I also think it is important to recognize how valuable this opportunity is to just recharge, relax, and slow down for a bit. Children and adults alike. However you spend your break, we hope you have a great time and we will see you back on Monday, February 28th.

Sincerely,

Ryan Francis

proud Principal of Maire

Our kindergartners will have a different celebration of music later this year (TBD).

Please save the date for this wonderful event: Tuesday, March 15th 7:00 p.m. at Brownell Middle School (new concert location). More details to come closer to the show!

Food Available for Mid Winter Break

We are again working with Chartwells to offer access to free meals over break. Here is a link to the mid-winter break food order form. Packages will include 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches per person. Please complete the form by the end of the day on Tuesday, February 8. Only one form needs to be submitted per family.

Meals will be ready for pick up at North High School, 707 Vernier, Grosse Pointe Woods, on Friday, February 18, from 4-6 p.m.

Black History Month Celebration

All month long each classroom read different stories from the book What Color is My World by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. This book tells the "Lost History of African-American Inventors", showcasing inventions that we use often daily and the important figures who made them possible. Thank you to the PTO for purchasing a copy of the book for each classroom so that our staff and students could enjoy these stories together. Be sure to ask your child about the different inventions and inventors that they learned about this month.

March is Reading Month

When we return from break the office will send an email to all families highlighting some of the fun "March is Reading Month" activities that we have planned this year! Every Wednesday and Friday in March we will have some activity or event.

Look for that email when we return from break!

Don't forget to order your Maire yearbook!

Have you ordered your child's yearbook yet? A common question we get is "Aren't they included with the photo package that I ordered in the fall?" The answer is no, yearbooks are a separate purchase done later in the year.

We are working hard to make the Maire yearbook bigger and better! This year we have a custom front and back cover, designed by Maire 4th graders!
