Reading
Marking our favorite parts with sticky notes helps build reading habits. We are learning that when we finish a book, we don't just get another one, we stop and do something with that book.
Read and relax
A favorite activity when we have a moment in the day is to read and relax when we are done with a task!
Star testing
We took an early literacy test to help me guide instruction for small groups and to help the children shop for just right books.
Math
Mrs. Shade, our instructional coach, showed our class the Zearn website that goes along with our new Eureka math program.
Buddies
After meeting our buddies, they did a venn diagram of the things they have in common and the things that are different about them.
Buddy Book
The fifth grade buddies made us a book and used the information from the venn diagram. They are so special to the first graders. Many have read them over and over again.
Phonics
We played a game called Letter tile stack. Students take a letter tile, name it, say the sound, and then stack it without it falling down!
Alphabet scoot
I love a scoot game. The children scooted around the room with their clipboards and a recording sheet to fill in the missing letters on cards posted around the room.
Top Dog -Serena
Serena loves dogs (Yes!) and macaroni and cheese. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up. She is pawsome at dancing and listening!
Doggy Bag
1. Next Friday, the children will be encouraged to wear their favorite color to school.
