Mid- Year Review

Chemistry- 8.P.1- Understand the properties of matter and changes that occur when matter interacts in an open and closed container.

-Physical properties: can be observed or measured by changing the matters ID.

-Chemical Properties: describes matter based on its ability to change into new matter that has different properties.

-Physical Change: When a substance changes from one physical state to another.

-Chemical Change: Involves making or breaking the bond between atoms using chemicals.

-Elements: Building blocks of matter made of atoms.

-Compounds: Substances formed when two or more elements are chemically combined.

-Mixtures: combination of two or more different substances that is mixed not combined.

-Periodic Table: a table of chemical elements that's arranged in rows with similar structures

*Groups are horizontal to the periodic table and Periods are vertical on the table.

-Metals are located in group 1,2,13,14,15, and 16.

-Non-Metals are located in groups 14,15,16, and 17.

-Metalloids are located in groups 13,14,15,16, and 17.

-Atomic Number: Its equal to the number of protons on the nucleus.

-Atomic Mass: The mass of a atomic of a chemical element that's equivalent to the number of protons and neutrons in a atom.

-Protons: a part of a atom that has a positive charge.

-Neutrons: basically the same thing as a proton but without the electric charge.

-Electrons: a part of a atom that has a negative charge.

-Law of Conservation of Mass:
