Our focus on the 8 Keys of Excellence
COMMITMENT – Make your dreams happen
Take positive action. Follow your vision without wavering.
Commitment is the breathtaking moment of making a compelling decision, jumping in, and going forward with gusto. Once a commitment is made, indecision is eliminated—there is no more “Should I or shouldn’t I?” … “Will I or won’t I?” A commitment is not made lightly—it’s about making a decision so strong that there is no going back … like a skydiver who has jumped from the plane!
The decisive act of making a commitment—when we decide to do “whatever it takes” to reach a goal—sets in motion an energy field that propels us forward on our path. At each step along the way, our commitment inspires us to take positive action and overcome obstacles, and pushes us on until we “make it happen.”
A Note from our Principal; Mrs. Rebecca Hummer
Welcome back and Happy New Year! On behalf our our SHES staff, our sincerest thanks for your support of our students and families during the first semester. From snacks to volunteering, holiday parties to donations for school events, your support through words of appreciation, donations and time did not go unnoticed. You make SHES a great place to be!
A special thank you to all who were able to donate to our adopted families in December. As Winter Break started, we were able to deliver gifts of clothing, household goods, toys and monetary support through giftcards and utility payments to four SHES families. This opportunity was not possible without the outpouring of generosity, love and donations from our SHES community.
As we continue to focus our school improvement efforts on reading and social-emotional learning, we recognize the importance of continued open communication and family engagement in the learning that happens each day as well as opportunities to enrich and extend learning at home. Our parent feedback survey that concluded in November provided our staff with valuable information on the status of our building. Thank you for your feedback. Survey results can be found below.
January cold weather will be returning. Please make sure that students are dressed properly so that they can continue to play outside as temperatures allow. Community donations of hats, gloves and winter coats are available. Please contact me if winter items are needed.
My door is always open. I appreciate your feedback and love hearing positive impacts our staff are having on your student(s) as well as our community. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 785-730-5345 or at hummerr@usd450.net.
Wishing all of you peace, health and happiness in 2023!
Sincerely,
Rebecca Hummer
A Note from our Dean of Students; Mrs. Shawnie Hays
This month we will be focusing on our cafeteria expectations. Below you will see how our 8 Keys connect to our cafeteria expectations. Please take a moment to review the cafeteria expectations with your student.
I also want to compliment our students on their bus behavior! The number of bus write ups has been fairly low for the first semester! Way to go students! Nice job following bus expectations and keeping yourself, your peers, and everyone on the road safe! Keep up the great job!
Sincerely,
Shawnie Hays
SHES Counselor's Corner; Ms. Sheri Fleming
