Cell Phone - Parent/Student Handbook
Cell phone usage by any student is not allowed. This includes but is not limited to watches and/or other devices that can send and receive text messages or phone calls. If you have provided your child with a cell phone or other messaging device for a particular reason, please notify administration in writing to receive permission to have it at school. Violations of this policy can result in disciplinary action. Additionally, the cell phone/device will be confiscated and a parent will be called to retrieve the device. The school is not liable for any loss or damages to cell phones or other electronics.
Hillsboro-Deering School Store
Beanbags can be made using a ziplock bag filled with rice or beans and duct taped all around to make it wipeable and durable.
Lost & Found is getting very full. Please have your child check frequently for their belongings. It is located outside the cafeteria.
No Toys at School
Please remind your children that toys from home should stay at home. When toys from home are brought to school they often get lost or misplaced, become a distraction or get broken. Please leave toys at home.
Thank you
HDES Handbook
Toys are not appropriate for school, unless the item is for a specific activity and the teacher has approved it. Young children like to trade, but oftentimes become distraught when the other party does not want to return the item traded. For this reason, all toys, trading cards, and novelty items should be kept at home. Items that become a distraction in the classroom or cause disruption in other areas such as the cafeteria will be confiscated and returned to the child at the end of the school day.
Handheld games/electronics are not allowed at school, but may be allowed on field trips or special occasions. Permission will be granted by the teacher or administration for those times. The school will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to any toys brought to school in violation of this policy.
HDES Emergency Response Procedures
At HDES, our staff and students safety is our top priority. We have recently supplemented our emergency procedures with the Standard Response Protocol which provides simple, kid-friendly language and procedures for different types of emergencies. Please contact either of your building principals if you have any questions about our safety procedures and practices. We know how stressful these situations can be for all involved, so we want to make sure that you know your children are in excellent hands and that we are prepared for an emergency situation. We also work closely with Hillsboro Police Department, as well as other community first responders.
The two handouts below will give you much more detail about our responses to emergencies, as well as answer some frequently asked questions. Please feel free to talk with your children about them. Some of the language is new to them so talking about this at home will help them be more prepared at school as well. If you would like hard copies then please reach out to Mrs. Furlong or Mrs. Laliberte and we will provide you with one.
Important Updates
Families, If you have not signed into your Web 2 School portal and updated your child's emergency information please do so as soon as possible. If we need to call, email or mail information to you it is vital that we have the most up to date information. There are also important updates for you to see online (notice of annual policies, video/audio recording permission form, etc.) If you do not know how to login into the Web 2 School portal please contact the main office and they can direct you to someone who can help.
Hillsboro-Deering Elementary School will be focusing on C.A.R.E.S in an effort to support the social emotional needs of all of our students and create a kind, caring school culture. Starting September 7th classrooms will focus on one skill/attributes a week through October. After each skill/attribute is taught follow up lessons will take place throughout the school year.
Child not feeling well?
Please call the attendance line (603) 464-1111 if your child is not going to be coming to school. Please include symptoms your child is experiencing. You will receive a call from the school if you do not call ahead and your child is absent.
Please
stay in your car when dropping off and picking up your child during morning and afternoon carpool. We understand that some children are very small and need help but this makes the drop off time very long. If your child rides in a car seat please pull forward to put them in or take them out of their car seat. A staff member will open the door to let your child out and help them with their backpacks.
Thank you for your help as we try to make this process as quick and streamlined as possible.
Change in dismissal - Contact the main office
If your child is going home a different way than usual, or if you need to change the plan for dismissal, please send in a note, and call the main office. All changes in dismissal should be called in and noted in the morning. It makes it very challenging if many phone calls are coming into the office in the afternoon.
Social Media
If you have a question pertaining to school or your child's classroom please reach out directly to your child's teacher or the main office. We do have a Facebook page and try to post upcoming events. It is not a good venue for questions specifically pertaining to HDES. The best way to get your questions or concerns answered is to reach out to the school at 603-464-1110.
Thank you
Newsletter Requests: We are happy to send home a paper copy of the newsletter. Please contact the main office if you'd prefer a hardcopy over the email.
