A Final Word from Principal Ashmore

We are now ending the 2018-19 school year, and it is the time when we have the opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved, and how we are moving into the future. It is with great sadness that I announce that I will no longer be the Principal of Gooch. I am leaving the position for health and personal reasons and cannot express how much I wish it could be otherwise. Gooch is an incredibly special place to me and will always be close to my heart.

I am thankful to all of the students and staff of Gooch! I could never fully express in words the depths of my love and appreciation for every person that I have encountered during my time here, nor fully express how all of you have impacted my life, not simply as an educator but as a friend, mother, and mentor. To be departing from this community – this FAMILY – fills me with incredible sadness. Over the past 13 years, I have formed so many life-lasting relationships that I will cherish and respect for the remainder of my life. This was not an easy decision for me, as it is hard for me to leave my Gooch Family after all of this time.

To the staff of Gooch, I could not be more thankful or prouder to have worked beside you all. You have all dedicated your lives to the most noble profession there is, and you relentlessly push and challenge the students we serve to simply not succeed as students, but to excel in every possible way as humans. You have made me laugh, supported and pushed me through every trial, and encouraged me through every moment of success. I love each and every one of you, my brothers and sisters, who have walked alongside me here, and will continue to in life.

To the students of Gooch, you all hold my heart in your hands. To have served you has been an honor; you all have trusted me to be your principal and to lead this school, which has been a source of true comfort and pure joy. You have shared with me your worries, concerns, fears, hopes and dreams which I will always carry with me. Each of you are truly amazing and I look forward to seeing the incredible people you will become, which gives me nothing but hope for the future of our world! Thank you for the memories that will last a lifetime, and make sure that you are always being true to yourselves – be the leader that I know you are, no matter what!

To the families of Gooch, thank you for allowing me the honor and privilege of serving you and your children. Without you, my job would not be possible, and without the great love that you give to your children, they would not be able to show such love to anyone else. Thank you for inspiring your children to be their very best selves, and in turn for pushing me to be the best Principal I can be – the very best Principal they deserve.

Although I will no longer be physically with you at Gooch, I will ALWAYS be a part of this community and our Gooch Family. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, as I am just an email or phone call away. And remember…Once a Gooch Gator, ALWAYS a Gooch Gator! Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow.

Yours truly,

Kim Ashmore, Principal

Tom C. Gooch Elementary

What's Been Happening at Gooch

Gatorfest 2019

Gatorfest 2019 was fantastic, with a record turnout. A fun time was had by all. A huge thanks to the PTSA, and especially the PTSA board, Meredith Moore and Vanessa Heath who made it all happen. To In-N-Out Burger who helped up raise money through the Cook Out. To Designs by Flora and Greg Brothman who donated the diamond and gold necklace that was the first prize in the raffle, won by Luz. Hernandez. We could not have done it without the support of Holy Cross, who sponsored the Petting Zoo and sent volunteers, and especially Angie Nitz whose help was invaluable. And everyone who came out and volunteered on the day. Together we raised enough money to pay for Bloomz for next year. Thanks to everyone who came out, had fun and supported Gooch!

UT PACT STEM day at Gooch

On the 6th of April, volunteers from Hockaday came and created a fantastic event for Gooch scholars. There was improv, musical performances, workshops and crafts. A huge thanks to the Hockaday girls who came and made this happen

A word from Vanessa Heath, our outgoing PTSA President: Being the PTSA President for this last year has been amazing! I have enjoyed meeting so many new people and getting to know the parents and staff at Gooch. I am grateful for all the opportunities that being apart of the Board has given me. I want to give a huge “Thank You” to the current Board- Claudia, Meredith, Ivey, Florencio, Lorely, Ester, Soraya, Mr. McKamie & Mr. Perera. Thank you all for your dedication and time. I am excited for our 2019-2020 PTSA Board. We have some great people staying on to serve another year, as well as a few new people joining. I can’t wait to see what this oncoming board will accomplish.
