Jo's Sport Talk
I hope this newsletter finds you all in good health in what are very difficult and uncertain times, and that you are settling into what will be our new ‘normal’ for the next four weeks.
I thought it would be a good time to celebrate some of our sporting successes from the end of Term 1 and look ahead to sport in Term 2.
The BOP Cricket Girls’ Rainbow Cup was held earlier this month. The key focuses are participation, skill development and fun. The TPS team displayed some brilliant cricket skills, picking up some great catches, slick wickets and big hits. They won three out of four games. Congratulations to Myla Hodge and Tessa Baxter who received MVP awards, and the entire team who received an award (a new cricket set) for the 'Best School' in the six week lead up Go Girls Cricket programme.
Last week, a TPS swimming squad of 28 students competed at the South Cluster Swimming Championships racing against the best swimmers from St Mary's, Maungatapu, Selwyn Ridge and Welcome Bay Primary Schools. All our swimmers put in their best effort. A special congratulations to the following kids who placed in the top three in some of their events:
Fabian Hill - 2nd 100m Freestyle, 2nd 25m Freestyle, 1st 25m Butterfly, 2nd Individual Medley and 3rd 50m Freestyle
Chiara Masey - 3rd 25m Freestyle and 3rd 25m Backstroke
Max Taylor - 2nd 25m Breaststroke
Ryan Blair - 3rd 25m Freestyle, 2nd 25m Backstroke and 3rd 50m Freestyle
With such an abrupt finish to our summer sports, I never had time to thank all of the parents and caregivers who helped out with our summer sports teams. Whether it was as a coach, a manager or simply the “Uber” driver and cheer squad on the side-line, we appreciate all of your support.
For now, the details on Term 2 sport remains uncertain, but once sports recommence, TPS will be entering teams into netball, hockey and basketball while other sports are played through local clubs. The information about these sports, plus registrations and payments, will be available on School Shop once we have received confirmation of dates from the local sporting associations. Hard copies will be available at the school office once school re-opens. Feel free to check out the following websites to keep yourself up-to-date:
