Biarritz is 4.50 sq mi. As of 2009 the population is 23,397. Biarritz is located in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques department in the Aquiaine region. It is 22 miles from the border of Spain. Biarritz made a good amount of money from the sea as a whaling settlement in the 12th century. The city has become a prime destination for surfers around the world.

A lot of people in France like to surf. People in France like to shop at street markets and flea markets, but they stay away from store chains.
