Curriculum for Wales - How to Plan
Using draft CfW 2022 documents to make a school curriculum
Preparing to provide feedback on the draft Curriculum for Wales documents
We are continuing to read, analyse and think deeply about what the draft curriculum documents for Curriculum for Wales 2022 mean in practical terms for teachers in Wales. One of the most important considerations we feel is the role teachers will play in using the documents to create their own local curriculum.
The sketchnote above is our second attempt at articulating what we feel the first few steps will be for schools when they start this process. The curriculum making process itself is one that will not be completed quickly, or indeed, will ever truly be complete. We feel it is a cyclical process that starts and finishes with learners needs and the 4 Purposes of our new curriculum.
We are not yet expecting schools to use the process articulated on the sketchnote above begin creating their local curriculum, but more to take some tentative steps towards deeply engaging with the curriculum documents and begin the process of fully understanding the implications, understanding what the documents will demand of them as professionals over the coming years. It is only by taking those first steps that teachers and schools will then be in a fully informed position ready to feedback to pioneer schools and Welsh Government on the draft documents as part of the refinement and co-construction process due to be completed with the publication of the final documents in January 2022.
To start a practice led, research-informed engagement process with your colleagues, download your copy of our first sketchnote on the draft curriculum documents below. We'd also love to hear your thoughts on our 5 step process above. If you'd like to know more about the Curriculum Making support we offer just contact us on enquiries@impact.wales
