Environmental Education Internship

Drawn to Multi Cultural Education? Intrigued by the geology at your feet? Fascinated with the magic of an ancient forest? Provoked by the possibilities of archeological exploration and historic investigation? Inspired by working with young people?


The Golden Gate National Recreation Area, with sites such as Muir Woods, Alcatraz Island, Marin Headlands, Fort Point National Historic Site, and Presidio of San Francisco, serves as a dynamic outdoor classroom. Education interns work side-by-side with National Park Service Rangers to deliver place-based, relevant K-12 education programs that engage students in inquiry learning in the sciences and social studies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As an Education Intern with the National Park Service, you will:

  • Assist the National Park Service staff with managing and conducting curriculum-based programs for San Francisco Bay Area students
  • Deliver classroom lessons that prepare students for field sessions
  • Lead field programs with the help of other park staff and volunteers
  • Help design curriculum materials and field activities for outdoor programs

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS PREFERRED

  • A valid driver's license is required
  • A mature and professional demeanor while working with visitors and colleagues is required
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Bi-lingual / cultural skills helpful
  • Basic knowledge of relevant subject area and inquiry approach to learning is helpful

DURATION
