March is National Nutrition Month!

Let’s talk about the most important meal of the day, Breakfast! Studies show that students who eat breakfast do much better in school than students who skip breakfast. Breakfast eaters can concentrate better, have more energy and have better muscle coordination. Breakfast eaters score higher on tests. Remember to choose a breakfast that is well balanced. A balanced nutritious breakfast contains protein and protein stays in your body all morning. A breakfast that is high in sugar will burn off very quickly and leave you tired and hungry well before lunch. When choosing a breakfast be sure to choose foods that will stick with you and last until lunchtime. Lots of foods contain protein. You can find protein in foods like eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, peanut butter and soy nut butter. Make the healthy choice, eat your breakfast!

Genius Hour Projects at OMS

Girls Who Code at OMS

Girls Who Code is a non-profit working to close the gender gap in the field of technology. Girls Who Code clubs reach 90,000 girls in all fifty states and Obsidian is thrilled to be part of this incredible community. Girls were encouraged to apply earlier this year and code during Genius hour with our very own Rosemary Tyson. Club Members participate in weekly self guided computer science lessons and collaborate to build a computer science impact project to solve a real world problem that they are passionate about. Girls learn key concepts in coding, collaborative design and build personal strengths such as bravery, resilience, purpose and creativity.
