Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center
Carlson Families,
This year has certainly been one for the books! 2021 is right around the corner and with the changing of the calendar year, we have staff members who have determined for themselves and their families to retire or resign. As a staff, we honor these decisions and have worked on hiring teams to fill each position. I am happy to say that all but one has been filled and bios are included below.
Pamela Hulsey, one of our third-grade teachers, is retiring after 25 years at Carlson. Pam began her journey at Carlson as a parent 29 years ago and has been part of this community for more than half her life. Pam has accomplished many things in her career including writing curriculum for the National Center on Education and the Economy, serving as a demonstration teacher, facilitating district workshops, being named Carlson's Teacher of the Year, and just recently being named one of Fort Worth's top Teachers. However, if you ask Pam, she will tell you that her greatest accomplishment is watching students reading, thinking, and living courageously because the books they read and work they did together changed them. Pam's last day will be 12/18/2020.
Laurie Sager, campus secretary, is retiring after 34 years with the district. She opened both Bill Elliott and Lowery Road Elementary before joining the Carlson team. She has served as a mentor and district trainer for new clerks and secretaries over the years. Laurie was eligible for retirement before the start of this year. However, she came back for one semester to support the campus with my transition, one of the many selfless decisions she has made for the campus she loves. She is looking forward to traveling and spending time with her seven grandchildren. Laurie's last day will be 1/29/2021.
Yolanda Acosta, head custodian, is retiring after being part of Carlson since it reopened in 1992. There is not a corner of this building that she does not know and take care of. She leads a team that works non-stop each day to care for our facility, support our staff, and most recently, ensure cleaning and disinfecting to keep all of us safe. Yolanda's last day will be 1/29/2021.
Crystal Estrada, campus data clerk, has resigned from the district. Crystal began her career at Carlson as a substitute and transitioned to data clerk during the 2018-2019 school year. After supporting with the opening of this year, Crystal's last day was 11/15/2020.
