Breakthrough at Kent Denver Update
October 2020 Newsletter
How Did Breakthrough Impact Education in 2019-2020?
In the midst of turmoil and uncertainty, our Breakthrough community has remained consistent and supportive. Breakthrough at Kent Denver aims to address two drivers of the U.S. education crisis: unequal access to quality education for students and a shortage of qualified teachers.
Breakthrough at Kent Denver strives to increase academic opportunity and help close the opportunity gap for motivated but underserved Denver and Englewood middle and high school students, keeping them on the path to college. Simultaneously, we provide a nine-week pre-professional teacher training for undergraduate college students interested in becoming educators. With our unique and effective students teaching students model, Breakthrough at Kent Denver continues to transform the landscape of education in Colorado.
Since 1995, Breakthrough at Kent Denver has served over 2,700 Denver and Englewood Public School students, and over 690 college-aged students have completed our Teacher Training Program. We are proud to say that for the ninth consecutive year, 100% of Breakthrough seniors have graduated from high school, and 100% of Breakthrough 2020 graduates are pursuing a college degree (12% of students have deferred enrollment because of COVID-19 to Spring or Fall 2021). Our Teaching Fellows leave Breakthrough with the confidence and skills necessary to manage a classroom efficiently, so it's easy to see why 75% of our senior Teaching Fellows are pursuing careers in education!

Fall Saturday Schools
Saturday School is not only a large component to a successful programming year, but it is very special to our Breakthrough community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the structure of our 2020 programming has to be altered. This fall, Saturday Schools will be broken up by grade-level. Students can ONLY attend the date and time assigned to their current grade. Although Saturday School is a mandatory aspect of Breakthrough programming, we acknowledge that some families may not feel comfortable with attending. Our new Saturday School dates and times are as follows:
