The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
THANK YOU
This week at Carleton our food service department was audited by the State of Michigan. Carol Najor (our head cook) and her small team of employees feeds hundreds of students breakfast and lunch everyday and do a phenomenal job doing it. Well, they were put under a microscope and came out with glowing reviews and were in compliance with all health department regulations. Thank you for your consistent hard work and dedication to the students (and staff) of Carleton Middle School.
We also had our first track meet of the season on Thursday. Thankfully, it was our nicest Spring day yet and our students had a great time showing off all that they have learned over the past few weeks of practice. Our coaches (Ms. Ciak, Ms. Lenz, Mr. Heitkamp, and Ms. Scheele) have done a great job conditioning our middle school athletes and teaching them the basics of track and field.
On Wednesday of this past week, we celebrated Administrative Assistant Appreciation week. Our secretaries have had a multitude of responsibilities added to their plate this year with new policies being implemented, updated security features, and nothing from their previous job description has been removed. Thanks for all that you do and the pride you take in your work.
Tonight, our Cadet and Concert Bands will take the stage at SHHS for State Band Festival. This is a huge honor and one that many middle schools never acquire. Break a leg!
Lastly, thank you to our 8th grade students who demonstrated having a positive attitude with the recent MSTEP assessment. Our students completed two Social Studies tests, one Science test, one incredibly difficult Math test, and an insanely long ELA assessment. Thank you for your grit and perseverance.

Parents,
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, Mr. Kausch and I have been working on reinforcing REACHing for success. This is a challenging time of year for our students as the days get longer, the weather gets warmer, and they can see the inevitable summer break which means sleeping in, more time with friends, and a break from school.
But before that happens there are a few things to celebrate.
1) Our teachers have been Resourceful with planning lessons that do not overwhelm our students during an incredibly stressful time of the year (MSTEP testing).
2) Our 8th grade students were Engaged during state testing - thank you.
3) Our cafeteria ladies were held Accountable by the Health Department & showed off.
4) Our track coaches showed Compassion to an injured student.
5) Our band students are going to Have a great time at State Band Festival.
