"If people feel cared for, they'll do more." -Jeff Henderson
Jeff Henderson has been a key speaker at the NWA Summit at Cross Church Pinnacle Hills on a couple of occasions over the past few years. He is an excellent speaker and provides practical wisdom for organizational culture and growth. He is most recognized for authoring his book "For." If you haven't read it, I encourage you to. It helps fill the gaps in some unique areas of leadership.
He had a blog that came out a couple of years ago and there was a portion of it that I thought was practical in helping to capture what culture is. These are key elements to attraction and retention in organizations. These are things I try to ensure that we do at Shiloh and are reminded of them as we are in our hiring season.
If you are in any level of leadership that is involved in the hiring process in your organization then you know the importance of creating an attractive culture to be a part of. We are in a unique time in our nation where there are smaller pools of candidates to do jobs and much less who are qualified candidates. This is applicable to just about every facet of our workforce across the nation. Therefore, the culture you create is crucial to attract quality candidates. Jeff gives three points that I believe are key to remember regarding employee culture that can help with attraction and retention.
1. If people feel safe, they'll bring out their best self.
2. If people feel heard, they'll be quick to listen.
3. If people feel believed in, they'll return the favor.
If you do the three items above consistently I believe it will positively impact your retention. Remember to never change who you are as an organization just to obtain or retain an employee. Too often this happens. You have to balance care and expectation! I hope that these three items will give you some concepts to think about this week as you enter the workforce!
Lead NWA well this week!
