Independent Reading
We have been working with the students on reading books at our own level. They have been reading independently, thinking carefully about if a book feels too hard or too easy for them. Next week students will participate in their first Fountas & Pinnell testing with their classroom teacher. This assessment is a 1-on-1 chance to read a book together and discuss the story. Mrs. Machak and Miss Warner will be out on Monday the 28th for testing and Mrs. Strejcek will be out on the 30th for testing.
Writing
We have wrapped up our work through the alphabet to practice our handwriting. We are now turning our focus more to creating sentences to describe pictures created by the students. We are encouraging them to use their sight words to help them as well as their knowledge of letter sounds to sound out the unfamiliar words they may wish to write.
iReady Testing
This week we wrapped up the iReady benchmark assessment for our mid-year. All of the students have now taken their reading and math test.
Brrr...
This week has been chilly! The kids have done a great job dealing with being cooped up in doors. Thank you for making sure they are bundled well to get to and from school safely. Next week is shaping up to be similar (and even colder!). We most likely will be unable to go outside, but keep your eyes on the weather. If cold days or snow days are called, the district will let you know as soon as that decision has been made.
