Math - In the real world
Just decimals this time.
Multiplying decimals in the real world
The Store
When you buy more than 1 thing at the store that's the same price.
Gas
When you buy multiple gallons of gas you multiply them because they all cost the same for each gallon/liter.
Food
When you look at calories in a food and you buy 2 or more of the same food, you would multiply the fat to see how many grams of fat are in the food you ate.
Dividing decimals in the real world
Store
When you use a coupon you make it a decimal then you divide to know how much you saved.
Food
Say you get a pizza and want to split it into 0.5 of a slice for every person at your party, that's when you would divide the decimals to see how many 0.5 slices you have.
Gas
If you were to have a $20 bill and gas was $1.60/gal, how many gallons could you buy, you divide 20 and 1.60, but you would add .00 onto 20 to even it out.
How to divide decimals
To divide decimals you ignore the decimal and divide normally than, at the end, you bring the decimal up and get your answer.
How to divide decimals with a decimal in the divedend
When you get a division problem with a decimal in both of the numbers, you move the decimal over as many place values until its a full whole number. Do the same to the number in the house. Than, divide the normal way but then add on the amount of place values behind the decimals, jump left on you \r temp. answer, then add the decimal there, then you have your answer.
How to multiply decimals
To multiply decimals you ignore the decimal and DON'T LINE IT UP!!!! Multiply normally and than count the numbers after the decimal points (total) and go from the end of the number and jump as many times as there were numbers behind the decimal points.
