The Oriole Way
Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe
The Oriole Way...What is it?
The Oriole Way is a management system, also know as PBIS. It is a proactive school district behavior management system that consistently teaches, models, and reinforces, the behavioral expectations to be ready, respectful and safe.
Research has shown that it is effective in reducing discipline problems, increasing instruction time, and creating safer and more positive environments in our schools, homes, and community.
Throughout the common area of the school and in all classrooms are matrices and reminders. These reminders are post to let the students know what is expected of them while in these areas.
When students choose not to follow the expectations of The Oriole Way, 1 of two things will happen. The student will either have a minor(classroom managed) or major(office managed) form filled out.
What it means to BE READY, BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFE
BE READY Being Ready means no matter where you are or what you are doing you should have the appropriate materials ready for your day and that current part of your day. This includes but is not limited to clothing, planners, textbooks, assignments, writing utensils, paper, etc.
BE RESPECTFUL Being Respectful means showing yourself and others that you value yourself and them, yours and their possessions and all of your and their surroundings. This includes but is not limited to being on time, using the appropriate voice levels and language, listening to others’, keeping your hands and feet to yourself, etc.
BE SAFE Being Safe means to create a place that yourself and others feel free from harm, danger, or risk. This includes but is not limited to walking in the hallways, staying seated at your desks, using supplies for their intended purpose, keeping hands and feet to yourself, etc.
