New Schools Joining June 2014 Summer Fellowship!
Emzingo closes another great recruitment cycle for the NexGen Fellowship this month. With so many great applications from students from McGill University, IE Business School, NYU, UVA, Tufts, Duke, Harvard and more, the competition was intense! We were excited to see a great showing from students in North America, where we had a great surge in applications over last year.
For the first time, this year we welcome students from UVA- Darden, NYU- Stern and Wagner, Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Thunderbird and more! This diverse cohort brings together more than 35 students from many different parts of the world including Lebanon, Singapore, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, Korea, Colombia, Ecuador, Russia and more. It will be an exciting summer, and we are very happy to build upon our Emzingo family!
Emzingo Receives Creas Funding!
It was almost four years ago that Drew and Ramon travelled to South Africa for the first time with 9 MBA students from IE Business School, in Madrid, Spain. These trailblazer students were part of our first-ever emzingo NexGen program.
We’ve come a long way since. Our organization has grown, adding top-talent and – perhaps more importantly – friends to the team. Since 2010, we have run 10 programs, with 126 participants, managing 72 consultancy projects to empower and support 42 fantastic organizations; both nonprofits and social enterprises. With this assistance, we can continue to expand our work. We look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

During the 10-day trek, they will visit NGOs, social entrepreneurs, and socially responsible businesses to learn about the key challenges facing South Africa and interact with those proposing inventive solutions. Of course they will also experience a South Africa safari, hike Table Mountain, and swim with the sharks in the beautiful beaches of Cape Town. Let's wish them and safe and amazing journey!

Join Emzingo for Community Learning Day in NYC!
Want to go beyond your typical company community service day? Want to hear how organizations are scaling social good? Then join us for our Inaugural Emzingo Community Learning Day on May 17th!
We aim to embed participants with the knowledge and resources they’ll need to be change agents in their own communities. The day will be spent engaging in leadership training and design thinking, learning and consulting for social enterprises, and visiting Drive Change NYC (www.drivechangenyc.com) to taste how their delicious food is offering hope and training to many formerly imprisoned youth. We then close the day breaking bread with like-minded people at an eco-friendly sustainable restaurant with amazing cocktails.
Join us May 17th in New York City. Space is limited so sign up soon. Let us empower you to be local change agents. For more information, contact Cristina at cristina@emzingo.com.

Alumni Spotlight: Yvonne
Where are you now?
I am Programme Coordinator for CMAP, an NGO in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, that is working on participatory development in the waterfront slums of Port Harcourt. My job entails managing the operations and finances of what had, until recently, been a bundle of disaggregated projects on the waterfronts and turning this bundle of projects into a cohesive organization. It's quite challenging, but also quite rewarding.
How has the Emzingo experience influenced your current career?
I did the Emzingo Fellowship because I wanted to pursue a career in social enterprise and work in developing countries, and I felt that the fellowship would give me valuable experience toward that end. I was proven right: I don't think I would have gotten either the internship I did immediately after my MBA or my current job if not for my Emzingo experience.
What is one of your best memories from the Fellowship?
Getting up close and personal with great white sharks in Gansbaai. I know I should say something deep and profound about making a difference and gaining empathy, but, dude, SHARKS.
What would you say to prospective students interested in the Fellowship?
Go for it, and go in with open eyes and an open mind.
