Dear parents and friends of our school Kia Ora/Bora Da/Hello
Kia ora Koutou
It's great to have everyone back at school ready for Term 4. Over the holiday break we had our school washed down and the gutterings cleaned. Thank you to Karl who has been water blasting our concrete areas and to our team of helpers that assisted with the working bee.
We have also employed Kerry Pryce to work in Room 1 for the next 10 weeks to assist Miss Mancer with her learning programme.
During the holidays the staff of Toko School went to Patuha Lodge and played "MasterChef". We were taught by renowned chef, Helen Flitcroft how to make chocolate mousse and then got into teams to play for the "Almighty Shield". It was a great day had by all with lots of laughs and team building. Thank you to the Board of Trustees for making this possible.

ART ELECTIVES - WE NEED YOU
As we are no longer having an end of year production (thanks COVID), we would like the children to experience "The Arts" in all its different formats. In order to do this we are thinking of having a full on week of activities for the children to be involved in - including photography, drama, movie making, construction etc. If you have any inspirational ideas and would like to be involved in this, then we would love to hear from you. It would be from 23rd to 26th November - 9.00 - 3.00pm working with a group of children of no more than 10. If you know of anyone who could help us, we would love to hear from you. If there were some Dads who could help out with updating some of our junior playground area, we would love to hear from you. Please ring Annette at the office if you can help.

KEEPING SAFE ONLINE(advice from Netsafe NZ)
Before young people start using technology, it’s crucial you talk to them about the type of things they might see online and develop strategies on how to deal with upsetting content. Your child may find things they never intended to look at so talking regularly about their online activities and encouraging them to come to you is one of the best conversations you can have. If your child has been exposed to upsetting content it can be hard to know how to help. Netsafe has developed the following advice to guide you through this difficult situation.
WHAT TO DO IF A YOUNG PERSON IS EXPOSED TO UPSETTING CONTENT
If a young person comes to you about something they have seen online, the most important thing you can do is take what they are saying seriously. The other things to do are:
Try not to assign blame about how they came across the material
Reassure them that it isn’t their fault
Don’t trivialise what they have seen by saying that the material may not be real (it is important to deal with their feelings first)
Provide comfort and assurance
Normalise their response, e.g., ‘It’s normal to be scared/angry/upset/confused’
Don’t overreact by taking away the technology – this will make them less likely to talk to you if something else happens and it can make them feel like they are to blame
Make sure that they know you are glad that they came to you about it.
It’s important to seek professional help for your child if intense feelings or behaviours persist.

SHOEBOX CHRISTMAS
This year the y6-8 children are running a Shoebox Christmas Collection again as part of our community service star challenge. This is an excellent project to give back to the community and to teach the children about gratitude and empathy. All completed boxes will be distributed to nominated children within the Central Taranaki community. Each class will be collecting items in week 3 & 4 with the Y0-5 collecting as a whole class and the Y6-8 collecting in groups. Classroom teachers will be sending more information to you regarding this in their weekly seesaw notes as classes have been allocated boxes for children of specific ages etc. Items that are donated do not need to be brand new but do need to be in excellent condition. We are aiming to collect items under the following criteria.
Something to read
Something to do
Something for health ( e.g socks, hats, body wash, bubbly bath, tooth brush, hairbrush, hair ties, sunglasses)
Something homemade
Something to treasure
If you have any queries please contact Shelley.
