January 19 - 22
I hope you had a productive day off yesterday! I attended the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast at First Baptist Church and it was awesome as usual!
Professional Learning Corner
Four factors influence the achievement of students. They are Quality of Curriculum, Quality of Instruction, Quality of School Environment and Quality of Home Environment. We control 3 out of the 4. Let's do the absolute most with the 3 areas that we control. Thank you for your hard work to improve curriculum, instruction and the learning environment at Lesslie. I am proud of you and the work that we are doing at Lesslei!
The focus of observations for January 19th - Feb. 11th will be math instruction. This will allow us to provide effective feedback to every classroom teacher in the area of math instruction. This coupled with feedback from Kristen and Michael will support and help improve math instruction. We will be using the Math Walk Thru template that was e-mailed to you and Kristen Hahn discussed with you during grade level professional development time last week.
Please plan to attend the Winthrop Back the Pack game(s) on Saturday, January 30th and encourage your students and parents to attend as well. This is a great event that will provide items for Back the Pack. Crackers and juice boxes are the suggested items to donate. You may also pay $3.00 for admission and it will go to Back the Pack. The school with the most attendees will receive $1,000.00, 2nd and 3rd place will receive $500.00 and every school with attendees will have the opportunity to win $1,000.00 in a half-time drawing. This is an opportunity for a fun family outing as well as supporting a very worthwhile cause.
Our Enrichment Day went well. Please have your students write about their experiences. We need input from students as well as you. If you would like to have students write thank you letters to Sgt. Richardson, Dr. Kokolis, Keith Wilks, Melanie Westmoreland, Lisa Taylor, Kimberly Massey and Ginny Hill that would be great! I am sending a note of thanks on the school's behalf but a letter from a student relays just how meaningful this day was. When I sat in with grade levels, the conversations were rich and beneficial.
Don't forget to download the district app. Search "Rock Hill Schools" in the App Store or Google Play to download the app.
Mrs. Ferment and Ms. Kennedy are recycling old printer cartridges. Thanks Kelli for taking this on! Funds will be used to support Lesslie.
Congratulations to Melissa Burroughs for winning a Facebook contest that will provide Waterman ukuleles. Students will eventually be able to check the ukuleles out to take them home.
The lab is open everyday from 7:00 a.m. - 7:40 a.m. for students to work on math skills. As I meet with students to set MAP goals, the computer lab will be a strategy that may be utilized by students who need remediation in math.
