Principal's Post
Dear Mill Creek Parents and Community,
As mentioned in a communication earlier this year, the district has begun the implementation of MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support). A process through which we support students based on research-based assessments and practices as well as individual student need. Along with this process, we are using the Star Assessment by Renaissance for Reading and Math. This assessment was taken in the fall by all students. Our winter testing window is scheduled from January 31 - February (we will screen any students who miss their testing day before the end of the following week). This second assessment will allow us to assess the health of our curriculum as well as help us to celebrate student growth and support students with specific skill interventions and enrichments. These assessments will be completed electronically in your child’s classroom and only take one class period to complete. The information we have gleaned from the MTSS process has been beneficial in identifying learning needs early and providing intervention quickly, allowing us to support students as they achieve academic success and feel pride in their work. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
All the best, and have a wonderful weekend!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
I receive regular reminders about the awesomeness of our students and community. Two of those reminders jumped out at me this week...
First, I was floored by the community turnout for the MLK Day soup drive that was organized by Mr. Molenari (HUGE thank you to Mr. Mole!). We collected around 750 containers of soup! This will certainly be appreciated by some of our local families with food insecurity. Our larger community were the participants, but I know full well that, in addition to our students' own involvement as part of that community, they were the instigators (in all the best ways) of our successful soup drive, as many came home last week and likely pestered their parents (also in all the best ways), saying, "We need to make soup!" Definitely an example of Mill Creek awesomeness!
The second reminder occurred yesterday when I imagine many of our students were expecting and maybe even hopeful for at least a 2-hour delay of the school day. Well, as we know, the snow did not do much, and we were able to start school on time. I sort of expected that the students would arrive with a little less motivation due to the disappointment of there likely weather expectations being scuttled. That was not the case! Students arrived just as they do any other school day - excited to be here, and ready to learn! That tells you something about this place and, again, its awesomeness!
All that being said, I wish you all an awesome weekend!

Assistant Principal
P.S. - Snow lovers... we still have plenty of winter left!
