Plano Middle School Weekly Update

Monday, August 15th - Friday, August 19th

Plano Middle School Families,

It was great to see and meet so many of our students and families at School Supply drop-off on Thursday. The 1st day of school is on Wednesday and we can not wait to get this school year started. When students arrive to the building on Wednesday they should report directly to their Advisory Teacher. If they are not sure who their Advisory Teacher is, you can look up their schedule on PowerSchool. Staff will also be stationed at the entrance to Plano Middle School to answer questions and point students in the right direction upon their arrival.

Chromebooks

Reminder to returning D88 students to charge your Chromebook and bring them to school on the First Day. Students new to the District will receive their Chromebook from the Technology Department within the first few days of the school year.

Chromebooks will be utilized on a daily basis throughout the school year. Please remember to charge your Chromebook every night.

Drop off / Pick up Procedures

Families who drive your student to and from school. The drop off and pick up area for students is on the North end of Plano Middle School between the middle school and the District Office. Please enter from Hale Street North of the District Office and circle around to drop off or pick up your student.

Please DO NOT park in the parking spaces in front of the school. Backing out of these spaces directly on to Hale St. causes a traffic hazard, and we do not want to see any of you get in a car accident due to cars and buses driving up and down Hale St.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast is served daily in the cafeteria from 8:05am - 8:20am. All Plano students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch throughout the 2022 - 23 school year. This meal consists of the main meal being served for the day.

In addition, we do offer a number of a la carte items that are not part of the free meal program, but can be purchased for an additional charge. In order to purchase these a la carte items students must have money on their lunch account. Parents can put money on their student's lunch account by logging into PowerSchool.

Lockers and Backpacks

All students are assigned a locker to keep their supplies, coats, and lunches in. Students will not be allowed to carry backpacks with them from class to class.

To reinforce and ensure a safe learning environment exists for all students and staff, student's backpacks will be checked by our building entry team upon entering the building each day,

What is Advisory?

The purpose of the Advisory course is to build meaningful connections between adults and students resulting in improved academic achievement, organization, and social skills.

· Develop self-awareness, self-management, organizational, and social-emotional skills to achieve success in school and life.

· Develop social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships.

· Demonstrate decision-making skills and responsible behaviors.

- Provide opportunities for growth and learning through service learning projects and team building.

Your student's Advisory Teacher is a great person to be in regular contact with. They are the first line of direct communication and will be working with your student on a daily basis to help them stay on track and organized.
