GOODNOE GAZETTE
November 11, 2022
Dear Goodnoe Families,
Yesterday Goodnoe hosted our annual Veterans Day tribute! The weather was perfect to celebrate and recognize so many veterans here at our school. I want to send a BIG thank you to all of the Veterans and their families who attended, the Veterans Day Planning Committee, students and staff, the PTO, and CR Marching Band for organizing such a special event for special guests.
This is a friendly reminder! Conferences are quickly approaching. That means that there are half-days for students on Monday (11/21) and Tuesday (11/22), and then no school for students for the remainder of that week.
Please join us for our next PTO meeting on Wednesday, November 16th at 7PM in the Library!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Beth

GES THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, our Goodnoe Community would like to take the time to help others in need. In order to do so, we are holding a Food Drive to benefit the Food Pantry of Lower Bucks County.
We are setting a goal of collecting at least 1000 pounds of food for the pantry. We will not know the total until after the food is collected and sent to the pantry but we are encouraging grade levels to set specific goals to encourage participation (for example, in sixth grade the goal is to collect 100 items per homeroom).
Tables will be set up in the main hallway for collection and we will be trying to generate some “friendly competition” by awarding an extra recess to the GRADE LEVEL that collects the most items.
Thank you for your donations!

PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY 11/18/22
Reading Tidbits & Tips
National Picture Book Month- Picture books are amazing for children of all ages to read. A college education professor once shared he himself would read a picture book every night before bed. These books can speak to all different feelings and concepts through illustration and text and are artfully crafted by amazing children’s authors and illustrators. There is nothing like physically turning the pages of a beautifully crafted picture book! This month we encourage you to share some of your childhood favorites with your own children. It will bring a smile to all of your faces. Happy reading!
Over the last few weeks, students have been learning about kindness and empathy in guidance lessons. Empathy is important because it can help people build connection, regulate emotion, and promote helping behaviors. For kids, empathy can prevent bullying, help them make friends, and help them receive help from others. Empathy begins with the capacity to take another’s perspective, to walk in another’s shoes.
Here are some things you can do at home to help foster empathy:
Empathize with your child and model empathy for others.
Provide opportunities for your children to practice empathy by helping them see the perspective of others.
Help your child expand his or her circle of concern beyond family and close friends. Use stories from the news to start conversations with children about other people’s hardships and challenges, or the different experiences of children from another country or community.
Improving a child’s ability to have empathy for others can help improve his or her ability to be kind to everyone.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
