4 things to do differently this school year
Chomping at the bit to try something new? Perhaps these four tips from PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator Amy Ridlehuber Kingsley will inspire change.
6 principles of Genius Hour In the classroom
6 free image resources
As teachers it’s important that we educate our students about copyright and making sure that they have permission to use the images in their projects. While it is true that many times students and teachers are protected from copyright infringement claims based on the “fair use” doctrine for materials used in school, it’s a complicated law and the easiest way to make sure that you are on the right side of the law is to get permission to use an image. Luckily there are several great websites that host images that you and your students can use for free and if you follow their easy to read rules on giving them proper attribution, you don’t have to worry about violating copyright laws or trying to directly contact the copyright holder.
10 ways to use Instagram in your classroom
Despite the widespread popularity of Instagram, few teachers are employing it in the classroom. Since sharing photos that may be of students in your classroom should obviously be a concern, make sure your classroom account is private. You can choose to have a single account for your class, which would be the safest way of approaching privacy concerns. The teacher should be the only one who can vet followers – and they should only be associated with the class (parents, students, other classes in your school). Using a group hashtag for a particular project or theme is a good way to keep track of what they’re doing. Read more about ten different ways you can put Instagram to use in your classroom.
30 recommendations to stay safe online
In an effort to improve your digital safety, Google has whipped up a handy chart that can be used by just about anyone looking to secure their online lives a bit more.
40 alternative assessment ideas for learning from teachhub.com
When people think of assessment, pencils and bubble sheets may be the first things that come to mind. Assessment does not always have to involve paper and pencil, but can instead be a project, an observation, or a task that shows a student has learned the material. In the end, all we really want to know is that the skill was mastered, right? Why not make it fun and engaging for students as well?
