Term 2- Issue 26 18th May 2023
NOONGAR SEASON OF DJERAN (APR-MAY)
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
It's been a busy fortnight with Mother's Day and the Mother's Day Stall. We hope all parents enjoyed the celebrations at school and home over the weekend.
This week also saw the opening of our sheltered area for the Year 1-4 children to eat at recess and lunch. The artificial turf is completed with decking to be finished over the next holidays. Check out the pic of our children making the most of the space!
NATIONAL SORRY DAY & RECONCILIATION WEEK BEGINS 26th MAY
Next Friday, 26th May marks the beginning of Reconciliation Week 2023 with National Sorry Day. It is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country. This year's theme for Reconciliation Week is 'Be a Voice for Generations - Act today for a reconciled tomorrow'. It encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise. Year 3's will perform an assembly focused around Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day.
FAREWELL TO FAMILIES
We wish the following families well as they finish their time at St Francis of Assisi and move on to new adventures. We hope you have enjoyed your time in our community and thank you for your contribution:
Luigi Bello (KW) & Allegra Bella Quintero (3B)
Lisa Zaitseva (PPB)
Liam O'Shea (5B)
All families are moving overseas to be closer to family but we hope their experience at SFOA has been very positive!
KINDY 2024 ENROLMENTS
If you have a child born between 1 July 2019 - June 30 2020, they are eligible for our Kindy Program in 2024. Places are filling very quickly and we have limited spaces left. If you have a sibling or family you know of wishing to enrol and have yet to inform the office, please contact Deb at the office to complete an application form or visit our website. Interviews will take place for all siblings and new children throughout the remainder of Term 2.
MOTHER'S DAY BREAKFAST & RAFFLE
We trust all the mothers were suitably celebrated and embraced last Sunday for Mother's Day. Our annual Mother's Day Breakfast was a fantastic way to start the weekend and as usual, was exceptionally well attended. Thank you to Mrs Rossi and Miss Walton who did most of the coordinating and our brilliant staff for their early attendance and organisation in making the morning a success!
A sincere and grateful thank you to the P&F for coordinating the Mother's Day Stall, but also to a number of businesses who donated prizes for the Mother's Day Raffle. Below is a list of the businesses who donated gifts or vouchers. Please feel free to use them if you are in need of any of their services:

NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY - FRI 19th MAY
Tomorrow is National Walk Safely to School Day. This is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children. Our local Councillor Bronwyn Smith from the City of Wanneroo will be in attendance to welcome our parents and children with a healthy breakfast of various fruits! So get those fresh walking kicks on pound the pavement with your children tomorrow!
MID-YEAR REPORTS & PARENT INTERVIEWS
Formal Mid-Year (formerly Semester One) academic reports will be available in Week 10 of Term 2 and will be followed by optional parent-teacher interviews on Thursday 29th June between 1:30pm and 6pm. This year, the academic reports will look slightly different as CEWA aims to provide some consistency across Catholic Primary Schools in WA.
In line with ACARA (Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting) policy, formal grades are provided for Year 1-6 across each of the learning areas. These formal A-E grades are a progress report against the end of year achievement standard required for each year level. Therefore, the mid-year report is a formal assessment of where your child is against an end of year standard. For those parents wishing for more details on learning area achievement standards, these can be accessed via the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) WA here:
https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/teaching/curriculum-browser
SEQTA ENGAGE APP
To access academic reports, parents will need to have downloaded the Seqta Engage App on their mobile device or through the web browser. For instructions on how to do this, please visit this link on our website:
https://www.stfrancisbutler.wa.edu.au/seqta-engage
Parents will need a username and password. If you have forgotten yours or need a new one, please contact ithelp@stfrancisbutler.wa.edu.au asap.

CONGRATULATIONS
Although I am a little late to the party, congratulations to Mrs Ashlee Mieschbuehler, her husband Simon and daughter, Emma, on the birth of their new addition, Kai Oliver Mieschbuehler. He was born the end of last term on April 4th @ 3am weighing 3.7kg. Both Mum and Kai are doing well as he brings plenty of joy (and sleepless nights) to his family. Staff can't wait to meet him. Congrats to Ash and her family.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Congratulations to Emily Epple who has been selected in the School Sport WA State U12 Girls Basketball Team. This isn't the first time I have acknowledged Emily in the newsletter, but it is a great achievement to be recognised in the top 10 basketballers in the U12 age group in WA! Best of luck with the School Sport State Championships to be held in Perth later this year. I'll be sure to take all the credit when Emily makes it to the WNBA.
Coach Jason.
