Lord & Lady Montague

May They Reign

Introduction

One of the most tragic stories told is what some might call Romeo and Juliet. For fate had decided that upon this do two enemy houses would come to have a forbidden love, that would in the end kill them both because of an ancient rivalry.And so a common theme presented frequently within the play is that people should not kill others or them selfs because of rampant emotions that have harsh consequences.

Act 1, Scene 1

"If ever you disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace." (996, 106-105) (In this quote the Prince is speaking to the houses of Montague and of Capulet who have just settled down after a fight.)

The Prince declared that if the two houses kill another person of fight in the streets again, they will be punished with death. The reason he set the punishment as hash as he did was in order to make sure no more skirmishes happened in the street again. Killing is bad and fights are a nuisance, so he attempts to stop it here.

Act 3, Scene 1

"'Brave Marcutio's dead!'....'now tybalt take the villan back again'.....'Tybalt slain...the prince will doom thee death...'" (1048,132,123,142-143){First Benvolio is speaking to Romeo then Romeo is demanding Tybalt fight him for vengence for Marcutio... Then Romeo kills Tybalt in the duel and Benvolio tells him to run}

Marcutio killed by Tybalt, Tybalt was killed for Marcutio's revenge by Romeo. The consequence, Romeo is to be sentenced to death. but still causing grief for both families as their relatives lie dead by the other houses's hand.and the consequence is Romeos exile and great sadness for Juliet and the Montagues

Act 3, Scene 1

"'Tybalt, here slain, whom Romeos hand did slay'....'Romeo slew him, he slew Mercutio. Who now the Price of is dear blood doth owe?' 'Not Romeo, Prince; he was Mercutio's friend; His fault concludes but what the law should end, the life of Tybalt.' 'And for that offense Immediately we do exile him hence."' {The prince is declaring Romeo's exile and Montague tried to call off the exile, however the prince saw what needed punishment and there after officially exiled Romeo.}

Romeo was more or less punished but this was a heavy blow to his parents as he was their only child. Romeo's rash decisions caused his own demise as well as Tybalts. and the prince was right to choose a just punishment for Romeo, lest unknowingly helping the conflict tumble more out of control. so dont kill others without expecting no consequence.

Act 5, Scene 3

"...'my wife is dead tonight! Grief of my son's exile hath stopped her breath.'" (1099, 232-233) Montague is speaking to the prince after finding his son dead.

Because of Romeo killing Tybalt, hence the reason to his exile which saddened his mother so much that she died of her grief. and so as to prove the theme you should not kill others and in the end result yourself for the aftermath is sad and not worth it.
