Teaching and Learning

The teachers and staff will return to work on Wednesday, July 29. They will have 10 days full of professional learning to prepare them for the delivery of quality teaching and learning for our students. During the first month of school we will deliver instruction specifically planned and written to address the gaps in student learning caused by the abrupt ending of in person learning in March 2020. In addition, our teachers will be continuously assessing students' understanding of key concepts and skills throughout the year and will provide enrichment and remediation as needed for each student.

Family Support w/At Home Learning

Parents we know you will need support with at home learning. We will be developing a plan with our teachers to make learning resources and tools available to you and your student.

For example, our plan is to gather resources, materials, and tools for Unit 1 of learning and make a "Student Learning Box". Parents will work with the teachers to arrange a time to come pick up the learning box. More information will be made available closer to the beginning of school. Just know we are committed to providing your child with learning materials to be successful during digital learning.

The administration will be hosting a Parent Zoom Session twice a month, similar to what Mrs. Bedoya did during the Spring. These sessions will provide you with tools to support your child at home.

School Supply List

Our teachers are currently working on a revised school supply list for at home learning. We will email this to you later this week.

Special Education

For our students with special needs, the school is working closely with the Department of Special Education to develop procedures to ensure fidelity of IEP implementation to the greatest extent possible.

Devices and Internet Access

Device check out, as well as hotspots for internet access, will be an option for families demonstrating need. We are working closely with the district office on how and when to provide chromebooks to students. We will keep you updated as we have more information to share with you about our process for identifying need and coordinating pick ups, etc.

Schedules

Our school day will begin at 8:30am and will conclude at 3:00pm each day. Teachers will provide students and parents with a daily and weekly schedule at Open House/Meet Your Teacher. A time for lunch (30 minutes) and recess (30 minutes) will be scheduled every day as well as a specials class- Art, PE, & Music (45 minutes). Teachers will have a daily office time to connect with parents to support you.

Media Services

Students will have continued access to online and print resources for instruction and self-selected reading. Our Media Specialist, Dr. Underwood, will support teachers and students in an online environment through collaboration, support and instruction. She will also be sharing how we will continue to promote the joy of reading and what incentive programs students can participate in this school year.

Student Services

We are committed to serving the whole child which includes their social and emotional needs and are committed to building community among our students and staff as well as creating an environment where all students feel welcomed.

We miss our students so very much! We know that they need and want to be back at school. Our teachers will be implementing lessons during the school day that specifically address how the students are feeling during this time.

School Food & Nutrition

We are waiting to hear from the district about this year's plan for feeding our students. What we do know is this: 1. All food items will be wrapped and packaged to avoid direct contact with food items. 2. All students will be charged for their meals based on their current eligibility status (free, reduced, or full pay).

Open House & Curriculum Nights

Relationships matter! We want you and your child to connect with your child’s teacher as they begin the school year. Our teachers will hold virtual Open House/Meet Your Teacher sessions with families on Friday, August 7. Teachers will be sending out an invitation to sign up for a virtual session.

On Monday, August 10, we will invite our new Kindergarten students and new students to Arcado to come to the school to meet the teacher and see the brick and mortar school building. A maximum of 2 adults with the student is allowed. We ask that no other children come to school with you. You will receive an invitation to sign up for a time. The use of a mask is required.

We have not yet scheduled our Curriculum Nights. Typically these nights are scheduled within the first month of school. More information will come to you via the school newsletter and the teacher.

Kindergarten

We recognize that our newest students are entering school during an unprecedented time. We want to build strong relationships with our Kindergarten students and their parents as this is an integral part of the learning experience for students. Learning about the digital resources available for learning is important and will assist parents in providing guidance to students in the digital environment.

Our Assistant Principal for Kindergarten, Ms. Karon Stocks, will be working closely with our Kindergarten teachers on how to provide parents the training and support they need at home.

More information is forthcoming directly to Kindergarten parents.

Parent Involvement

Great schools make great communities!

Community and parental involvement have always been key to our school's success and this will continue to be true moving forward. Arcado Elementary is in need of more parent involvement. In recent years we have seen a significant drop in parent involvement with PTA and School Council.

We are currently in need of PTA leadership. If you are interested in serving in a leadership role for the school please complete this form. https://forms.gle/9QYq6GG5f5bWEe577

If you are interested in serving on the School Council please complete this form. https://forms.gle/bY3ZrxYicKmMs3S36
