Philip Werner Ph.D
What is Indoor air pollution?
Indoor air pollution is caused by certain things that are only kept inside, mold, tobacco smoke, pesticides, gasses cleaning products and asbestos are all things that can pollute the air you breathe in your own home. 87 percent of American homeowners are not aware that pollution may be worse inside their homes than outdoors, Indoor air pollution is two to five times worse (sometimes a 100x worse) than the air outdoors.
Sick Building Syndrome
The term "sick building syndrome" is used to
describe situations in which building occupants
experience health and comfort effects that
appear to be linked to time spent in a building, but
no specific illness or cause can be identified. The
complaints may be localized in a particular room or
zone, or may be widespread throughout the
building.
Major pollutants
Some of the major indoor air pollutants come from cigarette smoke, certain cleaning products, dust mites, pollen, mold, radon, carbon monoxide, excessive carbon dioxide, and other chemical fumes that are carried inside by some people and particulate matter coming from the dust and pollen that is spread throughout the building.
How can we reduce it?
Indoor air pollution can be easily solved by cleaning and maintaining a stable and healthy living space, getting outside everyday will also help. Always try to avoid cigarette smoke inside your house and be careful what you drag in with you.
