First Grade News
March 13th, 2015
This week we learned how to SYNTHESIZE! Sometimes we change our thinking along the way as we read and change our predictions. We also talked about how we learn different things from reading the pictures and reading the words in informational text.
This week we have been researching information for our question and answer books. Your students have come up with some really great topics and it has been wonderful seeing them reading for research and using their schema to write their new books!
This week we have been practicing two digit addition within 100. We have practiced using base ten blocks, counting up, and adding the tens to the tens and ones to the ones. They have done a wonderful job and I'm sure they will all do great on their math test today!
We have been learning about compass rose and reading map keys. We learned a fun way to remember North, East, South, and West.

Phonics and Spelling
This week we focused on the different sounds Y can make at the end of words. We learned that sometimes it says "E" and sometimes it says "Y". We also took the end of third quarter spelling test. When we return from break we will start our fourth quarter words!

We will be going to a play at Union Station to Watch the series If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. We will be going to a park beforehand to eat lunch and then we will head to the play when we finish! A note will be sent home soon to sign up to volunteer and to sort out all the details!
