CES 1:1 Take Home Initiative Update

On Friday, January 8th, our campus began it's 1:1 Take Home Initiative. iPads went home with those students that returned the Student Device Agreement, Trust Card and payment to the school prior to January 8th. All students can take advantage of this opportunity at any time of the school year.

Please take a moment to read over the frequently asked questions.

Are all students required to take their iPads home?

No. This is a voluntary program designed to give students access to their device whenever they need it. No digital homework will be required and teachers are not expected to assign work that can only be completed on an iPad at home.

Who can take an iPad home?

Only students of parents that have completed the Student-Parent Device Use Agreement and that have paid the $35 fee are eligible to take their iPads home.

If you have already sent your form to the school but have not sent your check, your form will be sent back to you through your child’s take home folder.

Click here for a link to print the Student-Parent Device Use Agreement.

Is there a fee associated with taking an iPad home?

Yes. Each device requires an annual $35 Student-Parent Device Use Agreement Fee. This fee must be received along with the signed copy of the agreement before a device will be sent home. The maximum annual fee for a single family is $100. Please send a check made out to Colleyville Elementary with the name of the student in the memo portion. Multiple students can be included in one check as long as the Student-Parents Device Use Agreement lists all of the student’s names on it.

Click here to pay the Device Usage Fee on-line: gcisdschools.revtrak.net. Please note that a $5 processing fee will be charged in addition to the $35 fee.

If my child brings his/her iPad home, how will it be charged?

We are recommending that students place their iPad charger in their backpack. Charging will be expected to be done overnight while the iPad is at home. If the charger is in a backpack, students will be able to charge at school if necessary.

If my child participates, is he/she expected to bring the iPad home everyday?

Yes. While he or she may not use it each night, it needs to come home to be charged. Also, having the iPad at home nightly allows parents to access iPad to see the work that was done throughout the day.

Students that take their iPad home each night will be expected to bring it back to school each day. If a student does not bring his/her iPad, he/she will NOT be issued one for the day and will have to make up any classwork that is missed when the iPad comes back to school.

What are the expectations for personal usage of the iPad at home?

GCISD has developed a Trust Card for students to follow when taking their iPad home. This is similar to the Trust Card students are expected to follow when they use their iPad at school. This agreement should be signed and kept at home for students and parents to refer to.

What happens if my child’s iPad gets lost, stolen, or damaged?

The Student-Parent Device Use Agreement Fee provides repair or replacement coverage, both parts and labor for the device, battery, USB cable/adapter and up to one incident of “accidental” damages. A second incident of “accidental” damages will be subject to a $49 fee. After a 3rd loss, student may lose the right to take device home. Please report any loss or damage to the iPad to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible.

Parents are allowed to purchase a more durable case for the iPad if they feel the one provided by GCISD will not adequately protect the device. Not all iPads will have the same case on them when they come home.

Does GCISD provide a filter for internet access on the iPad?

Not when the iPads are connected to any network outside GCISD. All filters for home use would require parents to set up the device to access your home wifi network and would use whatever filter measures you currently have in place. Parents should not expect iPads to do any kind of internet filtering when the iPad is at home unless they set that up themselves.

Where can I learn more about Colleyville Elementary School’s 1:1 iPad Take Home Initiative?

We have a 1:1 iPad Initiative web page that has information and links for parents to learn more about all aspects of our 1:1 Initiative. http://www.gcisd-k12.org/domain/3223

GCISD Determining Community Interest In Tuition-Based Pre-K

In an effort to continually serve the families of Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, the district is investigating the feasibility of a tuition-based Pre-K program, beginning in the Fall of 2016. Those families who have a child who will be four-years old, on or before September 1, 2016, may participate in the program, depending on community interest.

As with any of the district’s special programs, families must enter into a lottery to be selected. If there is enough interest in the tuition-based program, then the lottery will be held for spots at pre-determined campuses. The proposed site locations are Bear Creek Elementary, Bransford Elementary, Colleyville Elementary and OC Taylor Elementary. These campuses were selected based on current and projected student enrollment and building capacity.

Families who are interested in learning more about the tuition-based Pre-K program are invited to attend the GCISD Special Programs Expo on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Cross Timbers Middle School at 6 p.m. At the Expo, district representatives will be available to answer questions about the proposed program. If you would like more information about the proposed tuition-based Pre-K program, click here.
