Muzart News
Children and the Arts was a great success! Thank you to all who attended to march in the parade, drum, view artwork, or watch the many performances! We are proud of our Arts enriched community of learners!
Our CVHS and first grade collaboration was also exciting! First graders drew self portraits and wrote a brief description about themselves. CVHS students of 2D and 3D Studio created a portrait using the information provided and some artistic license. We hope to have all of the artwork on display at AES soon.
In Muzart we have been learning about Melody and Music Appreciation. Kindergarten students have been listening to various folk songs and learning to contra dance. First graders are making banjos - a connection with their Sound Unit. Second graders have been exploring and creating artwork from listening to Jazz music. Third graders continue to learn new songs on the recorder. Fourth graders have been rehearsing for their play, "A Day at the Circus," which will be performed on June 13th at the Antrim Town Hall at 6pm.
Notes from the Library Learning Commons
In addition to a brief coding introduction, kindergarten students continue to learn how to have book discussions, while learning flexible thinking strategies through SuperFlex. We were introduced to Grump Grumpaniny, Space Invader, and Energy Hare-y.
4th graders continue to practice for the 4th grade play, A Day at the Circus! Mrs. Storro has been putting countless hours into rehearsals, costumes, and anything circus!
I would be remiss not to mention Dash, our coding robot. Student's have had a chance to program Dash and see how literal he can be while following directions.
If you were not able to attend the Children and the Arts Festival in Peterborough, you missed our giant lite brite. This is a new maker space activity we have introduced to our learning commons.
Kindergarten Celebrates ABCs
Field Day!
Grade 1 Air Explorers
On May 24th the first and second graders went on their long-awaited field trip to the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich VT. The first graders participated in a workshop titled "Exploring Air". The students had a great time experimenting with papers they made into "helicopters" and discovering what happened when they changed the length of the blades or added weight. The best part was making a parachute and testing it from the second floor balcony!!!
We all enjoyed the many other activities at the Museum from creating bubbles to walking on trails to "unlocking" mystery doors. It was a fun and educational day for everyone!!! Thank you to the many chaperones who came with us!
2nd Grade Time Travelers
Grade 3 Scholars
Third Grade has once again been hard at work on many different projects and new ideas this month!
Our target area for improvement in math has been measurement and data. To improve, the classes were mixed to meet each student’s needs and strengths. We covered pictographs, bar graphs, and line plots too. There were opportunities for students to survey their peers and create graphs, as well as measure a group of objects and create a line plot of each object’s length. Finally, we spent time interpreting graphs and answering questions about them. We hope to see a big improvement on our NWEA test scores!
In literacy we once again had a chance to work with Jeannie and the Arts Integration Program. Each student has chosen a songbird to research and write about over the last few weeks of school. Jeannie helped us make beautiful 3D scenes of our birds in their habitats that we will attach our writing to. This will be a great chance for students to use their informative writing skills and learn about a bird they might see in their backyard.
As the year comes to a close we are beginning to reflect on our year together; the amazing academic and social growth we’ve seen from the beginning of the year to now is really special. We look forward to seeing these third graders come back in the fall as fourth graders with a leadership role in our school community!
4th Grade News
As an Arts Enrichment project with Jeannie Connolly, each student painted a yearbook portrait of a classmate. We are looking forward to putting together our own yearbooks!
In June, we will continue working hard to prepare for the 4th grade play, which will be performed at 6 PM on Thursday June 13th at the Antrim Town Hall. We can't wait to see you there!
