Congratulations and Welcome!

Have you heard the exciting news? Mrs. Dado will be transferring to Flint Lake to become the Title I Director and Dean of Students and Mrs. Nguyen will be transferring to Parkview to lead our district's Title III program and teach Kindergarten in a bilingual classroom. We are very happy for Mrs. Dado and Mrs. Nguyen and we wish them all the best on their new adventures in their new positions! We also congratulate Mrs. Higgins as she moves into Mrs. Dado's Title I position. Finally we welcome Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Hefner as they move into our 2nd grade and Kindergarten positions. Mrs. Jordan was a 5th grade teacher and literacy coach in LaPorte prior to coming to Central as a Title I aide. We are thankful she decided to move into 2nd grade. Mrs. Hefner has taught both Kindergarten and 2nd grade for 15 years in Lake Station and has a husband, Mr. Hefner, who teaches at the high school. We welcome her to Central! All of our placements are subject to school board approval at the September 17th board meeting. We will miss you, Mrs. Dado and Mrs. Nguyen! Welcome to the Central family, Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Hefner!

Skyward Family Access

Don't forget to check your child's progress using Skyward! To login, please visit the Valparaiso Community School homepage at www.valpo.k12.in.us. You should then click on the "Parents" tab and select "Skyward Parent/Student Access" on the right side of the page. Click on the "Skyward Family Access Portal" button and login with your username and password. Once you are logged in, you can access your child's grades by clicking on "Gradebook." If you click on the letter grade for each subject area, you will see individual assignment scores. Thanks for all you do to support learning at home!

Thanks to Kernels & Kones!

We had a fabulous trip to Kernels & Kones to celebrate the completion of our summer packets and to welcome our new students! We appreciate the generosity of the business, as they donated treats to us. Thanks for working so hard, students! If you haven't stopped by Kernels & Kones yet, you should! They were very kind to Central and we appreciate it!

PTA News

Calling All 5th Grade Parents! Please sign up to be an attendant in Central's parking lot for the Popcorn Festival on Saturday, September 12, 2015. This will allow us to raise money for the 5th grade trip to Camp Tecumseh. Adults are needed to volunteer for the 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m and the 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. slots. Working at this event guarantees that parents have priority in signing up as a chaperone for the Camp Tecumseh trip children will participate in at the end of their 5th grade year. PTA pays nearly 65% of the cost for this trip for each student, and we NEED YOUR HELP to defray these costs for our students and continue the Camp Tecumseh tradition. Please sign up online at:
