Friday Flyer
October 28, 2022
Dear Families,
Another great week is in the books, starting with Diwali on Monday and capped off by scrumptious food in the cafeteria today for Dia De Los Muertos! (Our Family and Consumer Science class has also been celebrating Italian American Heritage Month and Filipino American Heritage Month, with plans for Polish American Heritage Month as well!) November is Native American Heritage Month and Social Justice Month.
Now, we hope to see you at the Halloween Party tonight in the gym! Next week looks pretty active as well, with Halloween on Monday, a high school selection process meeting for 8th grade parents on Wednesday, and Picture Retake Day on Friday. Important note: The special sibling photo event originally planned by the PTA for after school that day is NOT happening this year – sorry!
HALLOWEEN RAIN FORECAST UPDATE – NO OUTDOOR PARADE & NO SPECTATORS
Right now, there is a 90% chance of rain on Monday afternoon, so unfortunately as of now there will be NO OUTDOOR parade! Instead, we are now planning for a brief student-only indoor event in the gym, since it will be too crowded to have parents inside. However, we will LIVESTREAM it for anyone who would like to watch from home/work.
VIRTUAL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES - NOVEMBER 8
Virtual parent-teacher conferences will be held on November 8, during the afternoon and evening. A link to the online scheduling system we use – PTC Wizard – will be emailed on Monday evening, along with directions for how to log in, or how to make an account if you’re new to the system. There will also be directions on how to book a meeting. Please know that if you can’t find a time that works, you can still arrange another time with your child’s teacher – just reach out.
INTRAMURALS – CHANGES AND ADDITIONS
3rd-6th Flag Football session is now Volleyball
On November 1, we start our next session of intramurals for grades 3-6. Initially it was Flag Football, but we have now changed it to VOLLEYBALL while we have the gym available. If your child is already registered and is still interested in volleyball, you do not need to do anything since they’re already on the list. Flag Football will move to the spring for
grades 3-6.
7th-8th Flag Football Tuesdays and Thursdays
Our 7th and 8th graders now have a new opportunity to play Flag Football NOW on TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS, until their winter modified basketball season starts after Thanksgiving. We have announced it to all 7th and 8th graders so please check to see if your child wants to play. There is no special registration.
SURVEY FOR OUR ASIAN-AMERICAN FAMILIES
The Westchester County Asian-American Pacific-Islander community is hoping to identify and raise awareness of needs and concerns of Asian families in the region. If you identify as Asian, Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander, they would truly appreciate you completing this survey. Thank you! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P3M97PB
COAT DRIVE UNDERWAY!
Our annual Pocantico Coat Drive is underway and runs through November 18th! If you have any gently used coats of any size (infant to adult) that you’d like to donate, please send them in. We’re also collecting hats and gloves for kids to use at recess (and keep) when needed – thank you!
SWAN LAKE WALK BEING RESCHEDULED
We’re rescheduling the Foundation Swan Lake Walk due to past rainy forecasts, and while we nail down the next date, let’s “make it rain” with pledges and donations to support our school’s mental health initiatives and programming that’s beyond the school budget! More info here and to make a pledge, please visit: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4ea5ae22a0fcc43-2022
Thank you to those who have donated!
BUS ARRIVAL READINESS
Our bus routes to school are running very smoothly and on schedule right now – and you having your child/ren outside at your bus stop and ready to board when the bus pulls up is critical to this success. As the weather begins to get colder, it is always tempting to stay inside for as long as possible, but we really need to make sure everyone is outside before the bus shows up. Thank you!
HOMEWORK HELP/TUTORING
Just a reminder that middle school homework help is available to students who either have homework, need help, or both. Otherwise, students can quietly enjoy a book or, if not, then they should go home at 3:00. Thanks for understanding.
COMMUNITY EVENT: HALLOWEEN HAUNT IN ARMONK
Please see the attached flyer for a Halloween Haunt during the afternoons this weekend in Armonk – it looks like tons of fun!
I hope you enjoy a restful weekend!
