Newsletter Term 3 Week 4
Pekapekarau Primary School - 18th August 2022
Kia ora ē te whānau
We have some exciting opportunities coming up - starting with Tough Guy/Gal where a large number of our Year 3-6 tauira will travel to Rotorua and have fun in the mud that this rain will be creating! The following week is our School Cross Country Fun Run and we are really pleased to be able to have whānau at this event this year!
I am really excited to share with you a special Congratulations to Whaea Tayler and Nelson. Tayler is going on Maternity Leave with her last day scheduled for Friday September 2. Replacing her in The Nest is Adelle Taylor and Christine Letford. Many of you will know these names and will be as delighted as we are to have them in this role. Adelle has worked with us part-time for a number of years and is well-known to all of our tamariki and Christine taught here for a number of years some time ago, so we welcome her back with open arms! Both of these kaiako are passionate, experienced educators who are delighted about supporting our New Entrants for the remainder of the year. I know if you see them around you will make them feel part of the Pekapekarau whānau again.
Power Hour is a hit! I know it has created some extra washing for you at home but the passion, language, fun and learning has been phenomenal for our tauira and we are looking forward to the next session already. Please do remember to send them with old clothes on these Mondays, so they aren't filling up your washing basket! Just on that note, we are a uniform school so please ensure that your tamariki are coming to school in proper uniform rather than mufti. While we are not as strict as other kura about shoes, these must be black with either black or navy socks. Teaching your children the importance of wearing our uniform with pride sets them up well for the future, as other schools are much more vigilant about not allowing any non-uniform items.
We would like to welcome whānau back to Assemblies from now on. As many of you will be aware, we have classes hosting each week and love to celebrate successes and share some of the learning. It is also an opportunity for some of our tauira to lead and present in front of the school and develop their confidence at public speaking. These start just after 9am and are usually around 25-30 minutes in length. Your child's kaiako will let you know via Seesaw when their class is hosting.
Also, congratulations to our new Pekapekarau Board members who are all whānau of our tamariki across all year levels and bring a range of skills and Board experience. I am looking forward to working with you all and know that you will be supporting our kura to move forward positively.

Book Week Next Week - INCLUDING DRESS UP DAY on Friday

You're welcome to come along to our Parade at Friday's assembly to check out the array of costumes.
Maths Week Last Week
Thanks Mrs Mitchell for organising a fun and engaging Maths Week last week.
We are pleased to be offering Matific - an online Maths platform that tamariki can both use in the classroom and at home to support their mathematics learning. If you don't have your log in yet, contact your child's kaiako (teacher).
