A Roar from our Principal, Dr. Jon Pokora
Waterbury Community,
Happy New Year!
I am hoping that everyone enjoyed time with family over the winter break!
On January 11th, we will be welcoming back the return of our in-person students and continue to welcome back our virtual students. We have students that will be transitioning from virtual to in-person as well and I want to welcome them.
If you are a parent of an in-person student, it is important to read the different reminders below. The information outlines what to bring back to school. Here are a few of the reminders regarding our return to in person learning.
- Students and parents need to wear a mask when they are on school grounds.
- Gaiter masks are not permitted in school,
- Student entrance begins at 8:20 and at 8:30 school starts and for the PM, student entrance begins at 12:10 and at 12:20 school starts. Staff will begin the self-certification checks during arrival times.
- Students must stand on the PAWs that are located near the entrances to continue to practice social distancing.
- Parents need to wait for their children away from the exit doors.
- Please remember to bring back any pertinent supplies, Chromebook, lanyards and extra masks.
As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you again for all your support and welcome back!

Ms. Stalzer's GOOD NEWS!
This week, I stopped by Ms. Reyes's classroom, and was in for a surprise! She told me that she put a sticker on her face each time a student in her class participated in remote learning. She was inspired by another teacher, and the idea stemmed from a TikTok video. It has quickly become a strategy teachers across the U.S. are using to actively engage participation as we continue remote learning. She told me that her kiddos loved it (and so did I)! #WhateverItTakes 😊

It Takes a Community Effort to Help Keep Us Safe
Just a little reminder to follow handwashing, masking, distancing, and self-isolation when necessary in the coming weeks to reduce our community spread as we approach our target hybrid-model return date of January 11. Remember it is extremely important to report all illnesses to the school with a description of your student's symptoms before school starts every day.
Remember to utilize the self-certification cards provided to your student as your drop them off for school.
I am here as a resource for you and a family as we continue to stay healthy during this pandemic. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you for your continued support to help keep our school community safe!

Please continue to adhere to these guidelines:
★ Stay home when appropriate – experiencing new symptoms (including fever, cough, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion, runny nose, fatigue, body aches, loss of taste or small and abdominal pain), exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, or are awaiting COVID-19 test results.
★ Wear a mask and socially distance at all times
★ Practice frequent hand hygiene
★ IT TAKES MULTIPLE LAYERS TO PROTECT AGAINST COVID-19.
I also attached the latest exclusion guide that I am utilizing to make decisions regarding daily attendance in our building. Hopefully, it will offer some insight as to why individuals are asked to stay home for a bit.
