Good Afternoon Blue Nation!
Back when I was in school, Labor Day marked the end of summer vacation and the start of the school year. For that reason, I have always viewed Labor Day as a bittersweet holiday due to my sadness that summer was over and my excitement to be back in school. This Labor Day in particular marks an important milestone for our students and staff. I am both thankful and appreciative to say we’ve made it to Labor Day
By now, I think we understand that weekends in general can present additional challenges in exposure and transmission for Covid-19. Data supports there can be exponential spread at sleepovers, busy playgrounds, pool parties, and family and social gatherings. In fact, Indiana is one of seven states that health experts said is at risk for a spike if residents are not extra vigilant over the holiday weekend. This includes following mask mandates, social distancing, and other measures to lower the risks of contagion to ensure there aren’t repeats of surges that followed the Memorial Day and July 4th weekends.
It’s no surprise that if the virus is in the community, it's going to be in our schools. It will take a combined effort (home, work, school ,and community) to mitigate the risk and curb the spread in our district. Let’s continue to remain diligent so we do not dismantle the progress we are making. This will help us keep our buildings open and our students in school.
As a reminder, students at Tipton Middle and High Schools (grades 6 -12) will return to in-person instruction with some additional mitigation strategies beginning on Tuesday, September 8 on the following schedule, Monday and Tuesday: all grades in-person learning; Wednesday: Grades 6-12 students virtual; and Thursday and Friday: all grades in-person learning. No change to the current elementary schedule.
I hope that our students will feel the same excitement I did on Labor Day, as we go down this path and return to in-person learning PK-12. This could not be done without your support and engagement in our schools. Your involvement and willingness to work together through these uncharted times is making a difference. Have an enjoyable holiday weekend while making health and safety a priority. #TiptonPride
