HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 4 Week 5 - 10 November
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Don’t forget the Car Wash organised by the Siena Gang tomorrow! Details in the newsletter. They would love your support. This is for the best of causes.
There is a great Sports Report in this newsletter - take a look!
Tomorrow is also Remembrance Day. While we have addressed this important day with the children, I’d like to suggest that a minute’s silence at 11.00am tomorrow to honour those who lost their lives defending this country, would be a poignant thing to do as a family.
Have a good weekend

TERM 4 P.E. News
Term 4 has got off to a flying start with interschool athletics and two triathlons in the first three weeks of term, so we have some worn out athletes at Holy Rosary at the moment.
CPSSA A DIVISION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The CPSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival was held on October 26 at the State Athletics Stadium. This was a very hard day at the office for athletes and spectators alike. The weather conditions were wet and windy and even the spectators felt the wrath of the weather. Our squad tried very hard against some very tough competition. There were some great individual and team performances on the day but in the end we placed 8th with St Peters winning the overall shield on the day. Thanks to all the parents and helpers that worked to make the day a success and kept the squad as dry as possible.
HALE CONNECT TRIATHLON
Once again in 2017 Holy Rosary entered 30 Year 6 and 5 students in the Hale Connect Triathlon. The squad spent 5 weeks learning about every aspect of triathlon in some energetic and challenging training sessions. Staff from Hale School, Holy Rosary, Wembley Downs Primary School and Triathlon W.A all combined to run the sessions. I would like to thank Julie Catherall and Sylvia Ryan for all the help they have given over the program.
The culmination of all the training is an individual triathlon at Hale School. Holy Rosary competed with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship achieving the fantastic results outlined below. We were also especially pleased that Ashley and Jack Gardener received special awards for stopping their own races to help other competitors during the race. This typifies the level of comaraderie between all the competitors from each school and was wonderful to see week in and week out at training.
Year 6 Overall - 3rd Ben Borgas, 4th Ella Hodgson
Year 6 Girls - 1st Ella Hodgson, 2nd Ashlee Hale 3rd Tabitha Stevens
Year 5 Girls - 1st Elise Gavin, 2nd Greta Bailey, 3rd Madeline Peou
PRIMARY SCHOOLS TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS
Holy Rosary took all of our competitors from the Hale Connect Triathlon to the Primary School Triathlon Championships which were held at the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre in Armadale on November 3. This event is a team event that allows competitors to do one facet of triathlon as part of a team. The swim leg is 200m followed by a 6km bike ride and finally a 2km run.
All of our teams did really well on the day but more importantly the joy of working hard as part of a team was clear to see on all of our students faces as they all gave 110%. This was highlighted by the efforts of Isaac Nolan, who got a puncture at the start of his 6km ride and refused to give up, riding the last 5km of the track with a flat tyre. The fact that he refused to give up and kept going made us all proud, well done Isaac.
I would like to thank all of the staff, parents and students who have helped with this busy start to term, and I would like to ask for your continued support with the Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival which will be held on November 27 at HBF Stadium for all students in Year 3-6.
Warm regards,
Rob Flexman - P.E.Teacher

LIBRARY NEWS
The library has been the best place to be this week- the air con is on! As well as reading, students can play chess, board games, build lego, draw or even just relax in a cool, quietish space. With 87 overdue books, I am hoping parents will help search for books at home so we can start 2018 fresh and full of wonderful books. Lost books will need to be replaced by the end of term. Many thanks for your support.
