Monday Memo #14
22 Ways to Build Relationships for Educational Success
Dear T.E.A.M. :
"Relationships are the hub of advisory."
This week, one of our colleagues shared an article with me about an advisory program in Nashville, Tennessee. While the model differs somewhat form the one we've designed and established at HBMS, thematically, the values are consistent. The above quote is from the article, which I encourage you to take a few minutes to read this week.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this article. Here's the link:

I am not a big believer in New Year's Resolutions. That being said, December is the ideal time to push ourselves in experimenting with the resources from our advisory menu, in an effort to build good habits for 2017. The link is above, but to make it even easier for you, here are a few highlights I encourage you to check out:
A few suggestions to promote December's theme of GENEROSITY:
- A quote: What is service? http://quotes.values.com/quote_artwork/7257/original/friday.jpg?1427494496
- A verbal/written reflection question: Think about one thing you could do for a family member or friend this winter break that would show your generosity. Will you do it?
- A video that'll bring us back in time: http://viewpure.com/M9BNoNFKCBI?start=0&end=0
- What is the impact when we make progress monitoring a priority? http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/feb05/vol62/num05/How-Student-Progress-Monitoring-Improves-Instruction.aspx
- Student goal-setting planning sheet: https://www.interventioncentral.org/sites/default/files/pdfs/pdfs_blog/student_assessment_academic_self_monitoring_planning_sheet.pdf
Is there a strategy, tool, or resource you've used recently with students? Share it with me and we can share it in Faculty-wide, through our Monday Memo (credit optional). Also, be sure to check out the 7 resources below, to help support us, as learners.
Thanks for all you do, for our middle school students and our program.
Sincerely,
Dennis
