Also visit our Teentober Teen Choice Board for great online resources. Be sure to vote on the YALSA website by October 15th for the YALSA Teen Top Ten. YALSA has launched the Teen Book Finder Database, which is a one-stop shop for finding selected lists and award winners.
Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15th- October 15th
dia de los muertos virtual ofrendas
Día de los Muertos is an annual observance to remember and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones. An ofrenda is a shrine built to honor a deceased loved one.
Common ofrenda elements include:
Water (usually in a pitcher or glass)
Fire (candles)
Wind (paper banners)
Earth (food items such as bread)
Marigolds, sugar skulls, and butterflies
Images of the deceased
Items to represent the deceased
Students can use our Virtual Ofrenda Template to honor a loved one and submit their alter by November 1. Submissions will be displayed in a slideshow on November 2nd.
Link up against breast cancer
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The library will be creating a pink Chain of Hope this month. Add a positive message to our pink Chain of Hope to show your support all month.

The following classes used the library this month:
- English: 48 classes served
- Social Studies: 35 classes served
- World Languages: 15 classes served
- Science: 11 classes served
- Academic Literacy: 6 classes served
- Athletics and Health: 4 classes served
With an average of 25 students per class period, the library saw 2975 students for class. With an additional 342 students visiting the library with passes and 800 students before/after school, the library saw 4,117 students during September.

BASIC LIBRARY POLICIES
- Passes are NOT required before/after school
- Pink passes are required from 8:50 AM to 4:20 PM (3:20 PM on Tuesdays)
- All students coming to the library with individual passes must sign in at the circulation desk
- Please do not bring food and open drinks into the library
- Electronic devices for educational purposes are welcome in the library but must not disturb other library users
- Students must have their student ID card to check out library materials
- Senior Early Release/Late Arrival Students: Senior early release/late arrival students must sign in at the AP office to get a pass to come use the library during their off period.
