Hurricane Florence Heroes and Updates
We are under a Flash Flood Warning, so please help law enforcement and other agencies by staying home and not venturing out. Power outages are also possible from high winds. If you live in the city, sign up for text alerts to notify you of outages and restoration. You’ll need your location number from your utility bill. https://www.wilsonnc.org/outage/
We will keep you updated with any changes in our school schedule as far as closings next week through automated calls, social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and our website. You can also rely on closing info from The Wilson Times or WRAL-Channel 5.

Workers in Emergency Shelters
From Superintendent Dr. Mills: Thank you to the Wilson County Department of Social Services and Health Department for staffing the emergency shelter at Fike HS. Our Red Cross folks got it rolling yesterday. There is also a shelter open at Darden MS. Everyone please stay safe through the storm. Thoughts and prayers for all of our county and across the Carolinas and beyond.
Daniels Learning Center Success
We are SO proud of the students at Daniels Learning Center who work hard to get back on track! They are supported by an incredible staff! Principal Jennifer Parker - “We want to show that we are just as positive of a learning environment as any traditional school and that we just love our kids and want to see them grow as much as possible." Great article and photo by The Wilson Times Reporter Drew Wilson.
Grandparents Day at Jones ES
Jones ES celebrated Grandparents Day last week by inviting grandparents to have lunch with their grandchildren. The students loved having their grandparents on campus!

MORE SHOUT OUTS!
- From Springfield MS Coach Kat Alphin: "Shout out to Dennis Lynch and Tim Jones with WCS Maintenance for fixing our lights in the Springfield gym. We are thankful for their hard work and for all they do!"
- Another Shout Out for Arts in Education Week - Springfield MS Director of Choral Activities and Production Aaron Edmundson created an AWESOME video giving an overview of his focus and goals for the new year. The motto at Springfield is - Don’t Compete...Dominate, which is encouragement for students to stop trying to outdo one another and to be different, stand out and showcase their best. Mr. Edmundson is excited about the year and how music is going to change the lives of his students.
- Superintendent Dr. Mills has a new Instagram account! Make sure to follow him at wcs_supt to see all of the great things happening in our schools! You can also follow the district on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
- Students at Hunt HS now have the option of taking Digital Design and Animation to explore digital media careers related to STEM. They recently completed digital projects about their lives and interests. The class is taught by Business and Technology Teacher Ivana Eatmon.
- Lee Nissan of Wilson would like to thank all WCS staff by extending us their employee pricing (invoice pricing minus any rebates available at the time of purchase). They are also including your first two oil changes at no additional cost and welcome trade ins. "This is just a small gesture on our behalf to let you know that you are appreciated."
