Aligning Language Arts Content for ELLs: Support for Secondary Teachers
A collaboration of the Multilingual Education Team and the Language Arts Team, these trainings are designed to be hands-on, practical, and timely. The content presented specifically addresses the need for English Language Learner instruction that is aligned to grade level curriculum and scaffolded to support language acquisition.
During this session, participants will:
- Preview the upcoming grade level six weeks language arts curriculum.
- Receive details about the Literacy Plan initiatives for Year 2: Active Reading and Connected Writing.
- Observe an instructional model that incorporates the Literacy Plan initiatives, including Talk Read Talk Write.
- Plan differentiated instruction in a collaborative setting with support from specialists, including planning for text selections for alignment.
- Leave with at least one resource and one tool for addressing grade level gaps with ELLs.
Notes:
- Please register in HCP: Course #84480.
- Sub paid by the Department of ELLs for teachers of ELLs.
- Plan to be present the entire day.
- Please bring your laptop.
- Please bring a lesson that you can workshop, either a current one in progress or one you've taught and would like to refine. The lesson does not have to be comprehensive, but should include an outline of the components you would normally prepare, for such as, content and language objectives, mini lesson, guided practice, independent practice, and so on.
