NEWS & INFORMATION
IMPORTANT: Allergies
Last week, a student at a school in Union had an allergic reaction to a treat that was passed out in class. The student had an allergy to peanuts and unknowingly, peanut butter was in the product that was passed out.
I realize that everyone is very good about keeping on top of student allergies, but please remember that we have students with a variety of allergens, not just peanut butter. Ingestion or contact with any of these allergens may cause a severe allergic reaction. Please review your list of students with allergies to remind yourself of sensitivities when passing out snacks.
Because it is my priority, and a priority of the superintendent, that we are in-tuned with your needs, thoughts, and interests with regards to the day-to-day operations of our school and our district, each year Union School District conducts a perception survey to get feedback from you. This is done at each of the school sites and at the district office.
The survey window opens on February 10th and closes on February 28th. All responses are confidential and will be tabulated by an outside agency. The results will be analyzed by site and district administrators. Our goals will be to celebrate our successes, support the great work that is being done at Alta Vista, and identify if there are areas for growth.
We would like all staff members, certificated and classified, to participate in the survey. It should take 5 to 10 minutes. The survey link for Alta Vista staff is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UnionSTF_AltaVistaElem.
To further gauge our students’ needs, we will be asking that students in grades 4 and 5 take the survey. Again, the survey should take 5 to 10 minutes. Here is the survey link for students: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UnionSTU_AltaVistaElem.
Your opinion is important to us. Thank you for your support in keeping us informed. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Staff Room Copy Machines
Please remember that copy machines are only intended for when 20 or fewer copies are needed. If more than 20 copies are needed, we need to be using the RISO (even if it takes a little more time). The RISO machine is significantly less expensive to use and our budget is dependent on their use. Between now and the end of the year, we only have about 50,000 each left on the two copy machines in the staff room. Although this may seem like a lot, at the rate at which they have been used for larger copy jobs, we will not make it through to the end of the year. If parents' need help in using the RISO, please have them contact Vicki. Thanks.
Staff Meeting - Writers Workshop
This week's staff meeting will focus on our Writers Workshop professional development, with two different sessions happening.
Those that attended the "Scoring" session at the Professional Learning Day in January will join Chanmi and Christy in room 15 to learn more about conferring.
Teachers who attended the "Conferring" session in January, will meet in the staff room to discuss your next writing unit or plan for Writers Workshop going forward.
